Thought I'd bump this back up since the auction starts Friday.
I have 1 of my previous bids still holding up. I re-bid a couple of items only to be outbid again. Looking forward to the live action.

Steely Dan is hands down my favorite band of all time. I'm absolutely dying to get my hands on one of those guitars. This is breaking my heart because I want all of them and I seriously doubt I'll end up with even 1.

Nice rig run down vid.
Here's hoping we both get an item from his extensive collection.

Thanks, but it was to rich for my pockets. I just left after about 4 hours, again got a few bids in only to be trampled. I thought I might have a last chance when the partscasters & such showed up but they were going for around 2k.
Bidder 4k trampled me twice. He bought alot and was probably one of the bigger vintage retail shops.
An interesting auction none the less and my 1st at Julien's, I cant say I like their format. They do not allow half bids, charge internet bidders an extra 3% and the bidding increments jump pretty quick. But it does speed the process along.

Sorry your bids got trampled, sfceric64, but you gave it a great try.

Thanks for keeping us posted. :)

I didn't stand a chance. I was looking at his "banger" guitars. Nothing special. His 1983 Squier sold for $1920. Their last 'classic' Steely Dan album was released in 1980 so he couldn't have even owned it at that time.

The one I really wanted was labeled as a "RON KIRN TELECASTER-STYLE GUITAR - A Ron Kirn Telecaster-style electric guitar with dark sunburst finish and two single coil pickups, serial number LM0001. Accompanied by a hard shell case.". Sold for $2240.

On the other hand, I saw several early 1960s Super Reverbs sell for around $1500. Maybe because the buyer would have to pay shipping? One of them said "studio used".

You gave it a great shot, ghost. Sorry it didn't pan out for you but I hope it was fun participating in the auction.

Those are some pretty steep prices. A 60's Super Reverb would be nice, if you have a use for it. At 80-some pounds, shipping could get expensive though, as you said.

There will always be another auction to look forward to!

Enjoyed that rig rundown, Ghost. Sorry to see those items get past your bids guys. I watched that early bidding and it was plain to see where it was headed.

Either Julien’s was out in left field with estimates or the bidder was or maybe both were with this:

WALTER BECKER STAGE PLAYED IAN ANDERSON STANDARD
Estimate $3K - $5K
Winning bid $22,400

But, that was not the highest bid item.
WALTER BECKER STAGE PLAYED HAHN MODEL 229 GUITAR was
Estimate $8K - $10K
Winning bid $68,750
Speaker cabs
WALTER BECKER FUCHS SPEAKER CABINET
Estimate $700 - $900
and
WALTER BECKER ACOUSTIC 361 POWERED SPEAKER CABINET
Estimate $600 - $800
Each sold at the lowest bids of $320

Auctions are like hunting. You take your aim and hope to make your mark. Your shot sometimes misses, but at least you can talk about the one that got away  . . . and, with some luck, the next one coming up.

I'm wondering how this came to be. His wife (Delia Becker) probably owned the equipment unless it was willed to someone else.

I like to think she kept some of the more memorable pieces for herself and sold the rest with the intention of giving them back to the world. So people could use them to create music, or just to own a piece of history. Here are some words straight from Delia: LINK

Thanks, for posting that informative article, Ghost. Walter was known to gather a lot of gear for both business and pleasure as is evident. I’m betting there are still some cherised keepers with the family, friends, and associates.

Just wondering if anyone won any of the items from the auction?
