Troublecall,
Those are cool pictures and better quality. I'm glad you shared them.

[quote="Troublecall"]The radio station was kind enough to send me some pictures that are much better quality than the ones I had originally. So bear with me a little bit more...

That looks awesome but forgive my lack of information. Exactly what is "Can't Stop Rock'in", how did you come to it, and why haven't I heard of it before now :?: Or maybe I have, and can't connect the dots. :?

Doc,
I posted the original pictures and story back on page 50. But in a nutshell, I won a radio station contest and got to go on stage with a couple of friends to sing backup with Night Ranger, Styx, and REO Speedwagon on their current tour.
The tour is called "Can't Stop Rockin'" after a song that Styx and REO jointly wrote and recorded.
So that is the fat boy himself in his Fender Forum tee at the Sommet Center in Nashville with the 3 bands on the encore...

May all your days be bright and beautiful.

Some fantastic additions to the comp thread, well done everyone. I was looking through Fender stuff on e-Bay, I came across a Fender Lounge tee shirt. Nothing beats the real deal, this is lame

Woah...a UK seller with 100% and "item ships from Thailand" with more colors and sizes available...isn't this trademark violation?

Hey Mike,

My thoughts exactly, part of the reason I posted the link

The Fender Lounge must be gaining importance out there in the world, they say imitation is the best form of flattery.
I don't understand why they are not just Fender tee shirts?
Wow!! Go, the Lounge. Awesome!! 8)

Hahaha!! Now THAT would be a fitting photo for this contest. As much as there are fake Strats being exposed on this forum, how funny would it be for an entry with a fake lounge shirt???? :D

Where's Vinnypop when you need him?

Hmm, I'm going to have to do better than my crappy HRC pics.

Wait until December. There's a local address down there I'm itching to find. We'll be close by. Perhaps we three can do something creative on that Saturday. I'm packing a shirt for the possibility. The two of you can supply the guitars.

OK fellow Forum dwellers, zzdoc has asked me to reveal the plan: He got the idea to have our pictures taken behind 461 Ocean Boulevard, the house Eric Clapton was staying at while he was recording his now legendary "comeback" album in North Miami's Criteria Studios. The album cover shows EC standing behind the house next to a palm tree. Recreating the scene will be a daunting task as it doesn't look much like it did 35 years ago when the photo was taken and there are other obstacles to overcome. Below are some excerpts of my e-mail to zzdoc, mklmk8d and Miami Mike. And now, The Hunt for 461 . . .

Image

I guess I haven't walked down that way in quite some time because I noticed a lot of changes. Also, things have changed with the local police. I'm not sure why but security is tighter than in the past. There are large signs at each end of the beach warning people to walk close to the water and to respect the rights of homeowners. The signs behind the houses are new and standardized. The beach is still patroled by police riding ATVs. One other correction, my co-worker is not a relative but a friend of the family who grew up with the kids that lived in the house. He told me the house was renovated extensively years ago and that there were a lot of changes to the front of the house but he didn't know about the back.

Image

I have found 461 and I have shots of the front and rear. They aren't good -- my camera has needed replacing for quite some time and I didn't dare get any closer especially from the beach side of the property. Unfortunately the house is obscured by a berm, palms, and the roof of a tiki hut. The landscaping does as much to keep prying eyes away as it does to protect the beach. The house to the right is much larger and grander than the one on the album cover, the curved palm is gone as is the chimney.

Image

The place where EC was standing is covered by the tiki. The right side of the double window is hidden by a palm, but you can see the "mismatched" windows to the left. Had I been sure of the location when I was on the beach, I could have snapped a better pic. Now that I have a better idea of what we're up against, I don't see how we're going to accomplish our mission without standing a great distance from the house.

BONUS SHOTS - The front of 461 as it looks today . . .

Haha! The prizes for this contest are surely gathering a lot of dust in Brad's office by now. Maybe one day...

All joking aside, all of the latest additions to the thread have been great. Nice work all! Hard to believe my pics are all the way on page 1. :P

On the 461 Caper:

Though we never completed the quest, it was a pleasant get together for myself , steve, and serge (mclmk8d) who, by the way, disapponted me greatly by not pulling up in a Ford GT though his current ride reflects his interests in motor vehicles with moxie.

The holiday crowd and traffic congestion in the Lauderdale area where we lunched made piling into one vehicle while leaving two behind a bit complicated. Perhaps we'll take a crack at it in the future and simplify matters with just a pic at the front entrance.

Steve's comprehensive photo essay and reconoitering more than makes up for our not having included our ugly mugs in the scene. It served the nostalgia feel while bringing us up to the present. Very thorough and a job well done

We hope for another get together in late Feb/early March when I return her sans up-North guests or family, and invite other members in the area to join us then or, better yet, for the locals to begin get to know each other.

May we all enjoy a good year to come.

Doc
