OK, more pics.

The point of this first one is to kinda suck up to our American friends. There's me with my black Strat in the naval city of Plymouth in the south west of England. Round to the left out of shot is the spot where the Pilgrim Fathers boarded the Mayflower in 1620 to sail to the New World. They felt so well treated by the local population of Plymouth that when they disembarked on the other side they named it - Plymouth. The idea I'm trying to sell you here is that my Strat has finally made the long spiritual journey home...:
Image

Next, this little paper shop is supposedly on the very spot where the Mayflower tied up - the edge of the harbor has moved a few yards. The news is... that the Mayflower has sailed. (They don't really have their finger on the pulse hereabouts...):
Image

The bad news is that these days the locals are less interested in ancient sailing ships than in this particular product. In tribute to Joe Bonamassa I bought several bottles of Plymouth Sloe Gin:
Image

Next, me in T-shirt in front of Plymouth Sound, the entrance to the bay and deepwater harbor. In the background you can see military ships...:
Image

One of those ships was an aircraft carrier that we watched steaming towards land for three quarters of an hour. I was hoping that it would turn out to be a visiting American carrier (which come here a lot) because I could photograph it as it passed in the channel right below where I'm standing and then I could make a crack about the US Navy coming to try and recapture my Strat:
Image

However, as the sun went down we eventually realised it had stopped and I guess it parked to wait and enter port in the morning. Englarged, it looks more like one of ours I think, anyway. We have ex-navy people amongst us - anyone able to identify what kind of ship this is?:
Image

Cheers - C

Oh....using landmarks to win the contest, I see. I'm going to have to take a pic near the Golden Gate Bridge or something. That is......unless Mick Jagger comes through for me, wearing the same T-shirt, the two of us together......[/quote

Truly Fantastic to you in my Lovely Plymouth haha i think im gonna have to buy one next week with my EMA.

So soon you'll have the grand opportunity to see my Beautiful Face people lol
However i think im gonna have to get a picture on to of Smeatons tower to beat your pics Ceri That or I'll get one On the Sun dial 8)

Haha! No probs: I only come here to be beaten!!

Beat me, daddy, eight to the bar... (Anyone know that line?)

Cheers - C

PS What was really impressive is that Forum user Gil did indeed proceed to identify that aircraft carrier.

I wonder if you can ID this ship too, Gil?

"The people gather around when he gets on the stand
Then when he plays, he gets a hand
The rhythm he beats puts the cats in a trance
Nobody there bothers to dance
But when he plays with the bass and guitar
They holler out, "Beat me Daddy, eight to the bar"

It's still a fun jam tune!

Ha - a Type 45 Royal Navy destroyer - The HMS Daring - Her number is right on the hull just under the bridge. (and I didn't even look at the URL of your photo  )

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_45_destroyer

I identified the aircraft carrier because she visited NYC and I got a photo (which I posted) of her sailing out into the Atlantic. She's very distinctive.

The Daring is pretty distinctive too - she looks stealthy - so I went from there.

Ceri and Rhumba and nikininja - if I and a some of my mates ordered two lagers and lime and two lagers and lime and we were singing Beethoven's Ode to Joy where would we be ?

And yes, I have been to this location back in the '70s :P No pictures from me, it would give it straight away.

Now then a tricky one !!
These are four drinks that the Beatles ordered in the film Help.
A bar down on the Thames, they dived into it to it to avoid some bagpipe band and ordered two lagers and lime and two lagers and lime and ended up singing Ode to Joy.
I don't know the exact location......Could be the City Barge.
Well that's my shot at it, we'll see what the other guy's say.

I'll let CV be the judge on your answer but I believe your right. They had to sing the song to save Ringo from being eaten alive!

Wow, what a relief. You just saved me the tedium of watching Clockwork Orange again, which was my first thought when I saw the Ode to Joy linked with a '60s-ish drink.

I used to live near that exact spot on the Thames as a very small kid about the time they must have been filming that Beatles footage. Very post-WWII dilapidation - I can tell you it has changed SO MUCH in the last 40 years! Millionaire Row, now...

D'OH! [Sound of Ceri's palm slapping his forehead.] That was a bit of a giveaway, wasn't it? Mind you, it never occured to me you'd need a clue - and you didn't!

The City Barge is the pub.

Very good, winners all around.

I thought about the harbor, the esplanade, Paul Revere's house, Bunker Monument, MIT, Mass General, Fenway Park, Old Ironsides, Gillette, Dana Farber even, but thought it would be better for stage pictures with Fender gear. :?:
