Dang, I had the London Hard Rock on my "pix to do" list. Teach me to be tardy! Nice one, StratmanSteve! By the way, you are already getting more pounds for your dollars than a few weeks ago: the pound's on the slide...

And for anyone who doesn't know, the Hard Rock Cafe in London is the one and original - the only one in the world for many years, till they thought of expanding. When it very first opened it was briefly a genuinely hip place for rock celebs to hang out. My dad used to take me there in the early '70s and say, "Look, son, there's Keith Richards. There's John Bonham." I hadn't the faintest idea what he was talking about...

where did u get this word? and what does that meen? is it English? :?:

Oh dear: these things never bear explanation...

I saw that cyrillic script in the background of your photograph and seem to recall you said you were originally from Ukraine. I remembered the Russian for "of course", rang my wife's Russian-American employee and asked her how she thought it ought to be transliterated into English and that is what she suggested. I had been thinking more like "konyeshna", but my wife also studied Russian at university and agreed with her PA's opinion.

And here we are. For all I know, using a Russian word to a Ukrainian may in itself be unwise - right now I'm wishing I hadn't got out of bed this morning. Clearly the whole thing was a very bad idea!

(Note to self: stick to guitar wiring, Ceri... :( )

Hi man: I'm from London, England (like Pete Townshend says in the film).

My wife's PA is a New Yorker but originally from Moscow. She left as a kid in '89 - literally months before the wall came down. Terrible time getting out: if they'd waited till the next year they'd have just strolled through like everyone does now...

Anyway: more pix, please!

Cheers - C

Yes, 1 GBP = $1.93 earlier, but the week we were there it dropped to $1.75. The Euro dropped a bit too.

The HRC store is located next door to the cafe and my brother and I took the tour of the vault downstairs. Got to see Jimi's Flying V (Gibson?!) that was insured for 1.5 million pounds. We couldn't touch it. He has all the pics and sending them by e-mail was too slow so he's going to mail me a CD. It was a great trip!!

£1.00 = $1.60, as of this moment. Down three cents on the day. Heading towards 1.00 = 1.50, so they say.

Anyone Stateside coming UK-wards, wait another few days if you can then do it!

Anyone my side of the pond contemplating buying a Fender: move fast on the current stock cos the prices are only going one way for a while to come! The cheap American guitars party is over!

(On the other hand, good for exports. Anyone in North America looking for a Marshall or Vox: hold fire. The price will be lower shortly!)

Hi Steve: Pleased that you enjoyed your trip.

With Hendrix in mind, you and Ceri need to put Seattle on your hit list and the Experience Music Project. If you are not familiar with it already I'm sure that someone out here has the link. If you come this way maybe you can hook up with 'orville' and some of the other Seattleites.

Doc.

Thanks Doc, that would be a good trip, but I still haven't seen the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and I'd like to get to Memphis and the delta, too. Unfortunately, I got laid off last week and I'm scrambling to find something to keep the cash flowing. Geez, they could have waited 'til I paid off the trip before letting the axe fall. That's life.

Great to see more and more pics coming in! I just sent out 3 more shirts internationally, 2 to the UK and 1 to Germany -- so I'm sure we have more great pics to look forward to in the weeks ahead.

Yep, that's the plan!

I took a stroll along the Upper Thames river in leafy affluent West London where the glittering folk live and looked across at Dave Gilmour's well known houseboat/recording studio, The Aurora. The Floydheads amongst us can say much better than me all the famous stuff recorded there:

Image

Now, you can find photos of that boat readily enough, but what you usually don't see is the context in which it is sited. So I stitched you together a little panorama to get an idea of the setting:

Image

Big Georgian houses, lawns down to the slowly moving water, ducks and geese, willows and oaks, bells tolling in the church tower. What could be more English-Sunday-afternoon? Suddenly the content of so much of the music makes more sense, doesn't it?

Of course, as you see, this is all on full view to the public. Nevertheless, I think that's as close to a paparazzo as I want to get. We'll leave Dave to his privacy now.

Cheers - C

Yeah, well StratmanSteve already got my Hard Rock Cafe shot - I thought I had that one to myself!

While there I was sure there was some question or other about the Black Strat I was meant to be yelling across the water to Gilmour on behalf of the Forum, but somehow I just couldn't remember what it was...

Plenty more to come - if only other people were posting more pics too!

Cheers - C

All right, all right. Just for you.

But howzabout a pic of your Tee with the bayou beyond? So much music that I like comes from that landscape, but I've never been there. Give us a glimpse of you locale, why not?

Cheers - C
