I did a search on Christie's Auction for David Gilmour based on a rumour I heard the other day that he was putting it up for sale.

They estimate it will fetch between 100,000 and 150,000 in USD.
I would have thought more but maybe the market for aging rockers personal instruments is becoming saturated?

David Gilmour @ Christie's

That is most likely just their appraised value. Since it will be an auction, the real price may end up being significantly higher. I wouldn't even know what to do with that guitar. Buy it just to donate it to Hard Rock Cafe?

With it being such an iconic instrument it could fetch a pretty penny.
I thought Gilmour just referred to it as "The Black Strat".

Indeed "Blackie" is Clapton's black strat.

Quite right.
Pardon my brain fart.

I edited the OP.
Twice, because I was still brain farting.

Take it from experience, Matt. The older you get the more farts (brain or otherwise) you’ll have. Don’t worry about it though, you’re in good company. Just make sure they’re In tune, and they might go by unnoticed.

As for David’s estimated Strat price, I agree with Ghost in that, although supply and demand is to be considered, so is desire and that can easily kick the price up. IMHO. Besides, amongst collectors or high rollers, you can add bragging rights.

Yeah and that is a very well known guitar with tons of history. Makes my "top 10". I can just picture it in a display case at my mansion beside a huge blown up photo of David ripping a solo on it.

Don't touch it. Don't even look at it.

You forgot, “If you touch it, you own it, and the price just went up. “ :P

Here ya go! Hold on to your seats. I just received an email with some of David Gilmour’s final auction sold prices. As for his LP Goldtop, well let’s just say Fender made out okay in the recognition department. David did okay too.

For comparison to the guitars David auctioned off (Note: Charity was/is a factor).

Oh my goodness.
Almost $4M
That's a figure I do not think will be eclipsed very soon.

I heard a rumour Nigel Tufnel bought it.
Gilmour's long time personal friend Dave Gregory came over for a visit a few months before the auction.
They were laughing and laughing and laughing ...
Polly came into the room wondering what was so damned funny and found them hunched over using a magnifying glass and some very tiny paint-brushes; the kind auto pin-stripers use.
They were painting little number 11s on all of the knobs on the black Strat.
She asked the men, "What the hell are you two up to?"
To which they replied, in unison, "We're only making plans for Nigel."

Gotta admit, I was like "Polly who?". Helps to know who Polly Samson is. Turns out she wrote some of my favorite lyrics.

"On An Island"

Remember that night
White steps in the moonlight
They walked here too
Through empty playground, this ghosts' town
Children again, on rusting swings getting higher
Sharing a dream, on an Island, it felt right

We lay side by side
Between the moon and the tide
Mapping the stars for a while

Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and flow
Let it go
Feel her warmth beside you

Remember that night
The warmth and the laughter
Candles burned
Though the church was deserted
At dawn we went down through empty streets to the harbour
Dreamers may leave, but they're here ever after

Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and flow
Let it go
Feel her warmth beside you

Man 4 mil. Good. It would be a tragedy for that guitar to go for any less. It almost guarantees that the buyer can afford to preserve it properly.
