We'll be heading up to the Finger Lakes and then to Montreal starting this
weekend. Will definitely be doing some exploring along the way to and back.

So, are you taking a summer vacation?

Yes! Two trips this summer with the wife and kids: Old Forge in the Adirondacks in July and Hershey Park in August.

I answered No. There has been talk of hiring a cottage on Anglsey, but it will be a big family occasion so I'm going to avoid it using the excuse that I'll stay at home and look after the dogs. To have the house to myself just with the dogs for a week will be like a holiday so I'll stick with that.

Went to the west coast, Vancouver Island and Vancouver, in April. Some pleasure, some business. The last couple of years have required travel that weren’t really holidays; but, I try to inject a mini holiday along the way either with lodgings or car stops along the way. Hard not to find some fun out there.

Last year was a tough one health wise so I didn’t get much out of the yard or BBQ. In fact there were no BBQs, so we are looking forward to kicking back on the patio, guitar and suckies in hand with friends and family, goodies from the grill, and quiet time. Might make it to the lake. That will be vacation enough for me. :D

I know South Dakota well, avenger 79. From a kid to an adult plenty of fun and adventure. Enjoy.

Have a great time in Montreal, Mike. Love that area. It’s been awhile though. Lots of terrific music. Go for the Montreal smoked beef and poutine.

Enjoy, Mike.
I will be headed to my home town this summer to visit old friends.

We don't have any firm plans yet. Usually we go north, to the high country, where it's a lot cooler.

Totally understandable.

I don't have any plans, but I certainly won't be going to the Dominican Rebuplic

I didn't know what you meant until I read this:
"The FBI is now helping local authorities in the Dominican Republic examine the mysterious deaths of three Americans who were staying at resorts in the island country in recent weeks, an FBI official has confirmed to NPR."

Hoo boy! Are you in for a heap lot of fun.

My suggestions are plenty, but you needn't any of them as you'll find a ton of choices.

Here's some:

* Definitely Rushmore (goes without saying).

* Crazy Horse Monument. Commercial, but very cool. Careful of some offshore made Indian art. Some is very nice though if you like it. Just don't expect to sell it at Sotheby's.

* If you're up to it . . . go on the cave tour(s). Easy peasy standup, but worth the tour 'cause it's different.

* The Badlands of course.

* Deadwood. Not a big place; but, its' really neat and authentic for all ages. Well worth the trip. IMHO.

* Wall Drug Store draws millions of visitors.

* Whether it's aircraft or spacecraft in Box Elder, or Americana like the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD You won't run out of places to see or do.

* Whatever you decide, bring your appetite, you'll use it. Sample the gargantuan buffalo (bison) ribs if you see 'em on the menu.

One tip: If you hear of a storm, pay heed. They can be doozies. But , write all that off as an adventure in The Wild West.
Another: Be nice to bikers and they'll be nice to you. They have been known to take over a town, though, like Sturgis.

Have a great time.

OMG and what a series ....
Deadwood could've easily, easily, quite handily become the best TV series ever made if they hadn't just killed it after 3 seasons with no resolution at all.
My Gawd what stupid decision by those big wigs.
In the world of television drama?
Stupidest decision EVER.
Like, seriously.
Dumb, dumb, frikken stupid, really stupid, freakishly stupid, dumb.
That was a good show.
Not for the feint of heart though.
Holy ....
LOL

Just saw a snippet of Deadwood (the show) in passing. It was, as you said, Matt, not for everyone; but, my curiosity will check it out on VOD.

I have a feeling it might have been too much for mainstream TV audiences. Can’t say because I haven’t followed it. I do know of the reputation of some of the characters in real life and on set. Pretty rough.
