For his first night in Germany Eric Clapton brought back his Daphne Blue Strat - which was into retirement since November 2011 - to perform Tearin' Us Apart.

The Berlin show was plenty of another nice surprises as jazz wiz Kurt Rosenwinkel joined the band for the encore.

It's just sad that only one encore delivered at the concert in Berlin. I believe that many in the audience asked for a second encore but unfortunately they did not and instead switched the hall lights on. It was an unexpected and disappointing ending to an otherwise outstanding show with 74-year old Eric at the top of his game.

First electric (Strat) I played in the 60s ('62), Daphne Blue, but with a Brazilian rosewood fretboard, a stunning celluloid nitrate white pearl PG, thick strings, and a Bandmaster attached.. I'll never forget the look, the sound, and the mojo. :D Unfortunately, it was not mine to keep. But, hey! I drove a '57 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud too and it ain't parked in my driveway.

WGAS?

I liken your infatuation with Clapton to that of prepubescent schoolgirls going gaga whenever the Beatles changed their hairstyles or attire.

Pee Wee Crayton used a 1954 red Strat. Long story short, in England Fiesta Red (often called Flamingo Pink) was the guitar of choice and /or availability due to trade restrictions. In 1959 the first Strat arrived for Hank Marvin of the Shadows, reportedly via Cliff Richards, and ordered by Dave Lilley as seen on the cover of a that year's current catalogue. In 1960 Fender published a colour chart, but by then, for whatever reason, red, like in the Union Jack, became popular overseas. Today's Fender Classic 50s Stratocaster comes in Daphne Blue, but that guitar in an original form wasn't around in the 50s. Daphne Blue was, however, a 1958 Cadillac colour. Fender adopted it as a custom colour at an added cost from 1960 to 1965, and not only for Stratocaster. Eric Clapton's Signature Model Fender Stratocaster in Daphne Blue was a 2008 model.

The colour is highly sought after, and in some cases rare, although recent introduction of the colour can be found. You may find that Daphne Blue may have a different hue depending on the paint, coating, fade and aging. It is IMHO all very good, though.

Note: Daphne Blue (as with other colours for any year) may or may not have been produced as a custom job prior to 1960's introduction, but AFAIK none have showed up yet. Then there is the question as to when the first overseas Daphne Blue appeared. I've read one report that said one in the UK showed up in 1998; but, my guess is the first Daphne Blue arrived across the pond earlier. The colour did not have a wide distribution after five years of introduction, however. So maybe there is a gem hiding away. :P
