I think the most amusing part of these discussions is where the "Apple People" keep referring to Apple vs. PC. "PC" stands for "personal computer". You know, like a MAC. A computer designed for personal use. A MAC is a PC.
Even more so today, Ghost, as Apple uses some identical or similar parts and suppliers, and it looks like they may be heading in a similar direction in some ways. I think where the confusion gets really murky is the media out there (like print media) with titles like PC Computing or similar where Apple products are, most often, nowhere to be seen or discussed, and then again sometimes Apple is included. The opposite with Apple geared publications is also true, Then you have Apple’s preference to promote “Mac” over “PC”. Electronic watches, electronic calculators, and such are personal computers per se.

It seems Apple has found a way to partially identify themselves from the crowd. The crowd which is not Apple has generally decided as a type to not be distinctly separate . Makes sense considering they are more commonly related than not. Apple has had some major differences and proprietary design development, good and bad, in their build over time. To me they are all computers and, depending on how they are used, there is nothing personal about it collectively in this day and age unless one chooses to use it in that fashion, which is a personal thing. Your computer may be used in the workplace or maybe it is superior at home.

The screw driver may or may not be a personal thing. On the retailers’ shelf it is just a screwdriver, unless it’s a Craftsman, Philips or Robertson screwdriver for example. One might simply ask for the Craftsman, Philips, Robertson, big one, small one, or simply screwdriver. Were they all lumped together one never knows what will be at hand. Maybe, it will be just a screwdriver bit; but, what kind?

Aw, fuggedaboutit, Pass me a hammer and nail. What kind? Nope! Not going there. :P

That's exactly what happened. It was Apple's marketing. Do you want a cotton swab or a Q-Tip? Do you want a facial tissue or a Kleenex? Do you want a PC or a MAC?

You're right ghost. I always assumed a PC was Windows based too. I think that is what is inferred but you are quite right, an Apple is a PC.

I had a Commodore 64, too. I thought it was so cool. It replaced an Atari that used an audio cassette for storage. Things have come a long way and it seems like whatever you buy it's obsolete in a month or so.

Hey Marky, do you remember "GEOS" on the Commodore 64? It was the first "real" operating system I ever saw. Somehow the history books ignored this program which was way ahead of its time:

OMG, I forgot about that. It was so cool and it worked. Thanks for the picture. :)

Love the analogy, Ghost, :D
As for the Commodore, Ghost, and Atari, Marky both very cool for their time and still cool in a retro sort of way. 8) Mattel Intellivision was another item designed for gaming and promised to have personal computer features. but it ran into trouble with charges of fraud and false advertising, and an eventual 4000 keyboards most of which do not exist today. I remember my nephews trying to get their uncle to take off with a bi-plane that constantly stalled and crashed. They seemed to enjoy that better than me. I hated that Mattel thingamabob,

Coleco. Ah, yes. Good games, and the maker of Adam (a lesser accepted computer compared to Commodore and Atari). Still, a lot of fun, Ghost.

But, since this is about iTunes and storing and retrieving digital music, you might want to see this and how music, apparently, came to computers:

Funny that the soundtracks of the first video games as associated here sounds just like CSIRAC. How’s that for longevity?

OMG It wasn’’t introduced by Apple or Microsoft (Windows) or Android or Sony. ROTFL.

Like many inventions and developments, history is often promoted for national interests or corporate or personal gain and bragging rights. Too bad, because there are many stories left unheard or lost in the skewed shuffle. Sometimes, it gets confusing. Intentionally or otherwise.

For some related historical background on computer music and it’s development, I found this to be an excellent read:

 That's what I thought too, Matt. I wonder how massive the cooling system was. We complain about the quirks with computer hardware now. Imagine if we had to add a tube tester to our home computer. You can bet Apple would have installed a proprietary tube. I bet with digital and tubes, whatever the sound CSIRAC had was sweet. Or it could have been like Brenda Lee's song - "Sweet Nothin's". :P

Wow that CSIRAC clip was amazing. 2kb storage. I'm currently installing a system at at work that has 25 1.2TB hard drives.

Speaking of Apple, what do you call an Apple business server? Punchline

That storage is freakin' ridiculous, huh? The funny thing about that is it probably was optimized to do more with 2kb than a lot of gear with demands can do today. I'm not putting money on it; but, I've seen GBs of memory make a computer crawl, including the one I'm using. Just sayin'. :P
