There were leaks concerning macOS Catalina's release date.

The new operating system will be available on App Store this Friday though Apple hasn't officially confirmed these rumours yet.

I’m waiting for the verdict to come in from the jury, I hope we won’t need an appeal.

I begrudgingly updated my iPhone today, because of a news story on TV reporting that in a few days, a number of things like email, messaging, and browsing will stop working because time updating will stop working because of a change in GPS software.

Is it accurate reporting? I don't know. Much like the internet, I don't believe everything I see on TV.

I could have waited to see if it's true, but then my only option would be to connect my phone to my computer to update if the story is accurate, which I don't care to do.

I find it hard to believe that Apple doesn't have a backup time source like a NTP time server to keep the time reasonably accurate. Do I care if it's a few hundred milliseconds off? No.

YMMV,
So far no major or minor issues with the upgrade.

FWIW, 13.2 is no longer a beta.

Yea, I just changed the topic title. With the update you can control what
SIRI sends to Apple and completely wipe out your SIRI history.

Still haven’t jumped to 13 anything yet
on iPhone X. Had Mrs. FSB do the update to 13.2.3 on her iPad after holding off to see if the gremlins would show up. So far it's working for her.

Any problems fellas?

I only use it on iPad (iPhone is too old) but no problems.

Thanks, Mike. Since the beginning, I pretty much tolerated iPhone X. It doesn’t play nice with the Forum. It loses your text before submitting while posting if you tilt your phone in any direction. I found a work around by locking the screen in portrait mode. This only happens with the Forum posts while being made in Post A Reply, and all iPhone Xs with Safari AFAIK, as I have tested. My wife uses my iPhone. 5 and in many ways it is a better phone IMHO, but this is apples to oranges soon to be limited by age.

Motorola is expected to make a return to being a big player in mobile phones again, and there’s some big changes coming with others, including flip displays. Should be interesting. As some have said, even though I appreciate the good things about Apple and Phht! the rest, iOS is mature and there’s only so much a makeover will do for you, Ask Microsoft with it’s hills and valleys fans and haters, and whatnot. Good as it is, Apple is the fossil fuel of the bunch. Still useful, still cool, has it’s moments but times move on. Can’t say we all like it or embrace it, but move on they will. Stragglers will always be involved, maybe adding a new wrapping, and others will embrace the new trends whether it’s a smart or sound move or not. Sooner than later change will come and leave the others behind.

I’m using the iPhone right now, but I still have, thanks to my father-in-law who worked for the phone company, a rotary candlestick phone in the house. and a crank phone on the wall. They were, of course, just phones. They don’t work. They didn’t qualify for updates. :P

Google is also coming out with a new smartphone. It probably spies on you like
all of the others do.

Reminds me of a joke :

Wife - why do you talk so soft in the room?
Husband - I don't want Zuckerberg to hear me!

She laughed

He laughed

Siri laughed

Alexa laughed

You may never see Amazon Prime in 4K on your present iOS phone or mine.

As we all know HD resolution for iOS is available on the later Apple phones, and they’ve been around for some time. iPhone’s OLED screen is 8 bits colour depth as is the older Blu-Ray. 10 bits colour depth accompanies UHD Blu-Ray and 4K. 12 bits is possible, but colour banding can be difficult so 10 bits is the norm.

Than there is HDR and a host of other characteristics and names that support marketing.

Up to 4K UHD resolution 3840 x 2160 pixels can be found in Android’s lineup. They’ll be watching those movies and videos in all their glory,

2K 2436 x 1125 pixels is the standard for iPhones X and 11 Pro, (2688 X 1242 for iPhone 11 Pro Max). 1792 X 838 pixels were given to iPhone 11 with it’s LCD screen, and ever since iPhone 8 and those that followed that were designed to shoot 4K video, Apple has yet to add 4K displays and playback to iPhone at this time? I know. Apple’s waiting to add 4K to their playback after they add an 8K camera to the phone. Reminds me of when I had a professional colour video camera with a black and white view finder. That was economics, and standard fare when Alley Oop was in the studio.

Sorry, Apple. Might as well change your battery to fossil fuel, and here I thought the promotion and landing on Mars was being dragged out in my lifetime.

I no longer own Android so it’s neither an endorsement or a put down. Just sayin’.

All I really need my phone for is talking, texting and GPS. The occasional
picture or video as well. It's really all I need from a phone. So I'm good
with my iPhone 6.

Ain’t nothing wrong with that, Mike. I got this one in a ‘round about way so that Mrs. FSB could have the 5s which I still like. In fact I stayed away from Apple until I realized it was easier to teach and manage this and her iPad and the fact that her friends and family use Apple. I don’t play games, haven’t watched a movie on the small screen and, except for the Forum, don’t do the social media thing. Thinking of matching up with the Strat though.

My thinking is that I might want to use it wirelessly with the next TV. and it and the recordings might as well complement each other since it’s paid for anyhow. Apple is good at wimping out, and boasting about minor upgrades like removing the phone jack to sell more adapters. :?
I have to admit, along with the camera, FaceTime, notation, and surfing the Net, it certainly has been helpful on trips, and I needed one when I was laid up last year, and this iPhone X was on sale and a quick grab. I was betting on getting some longevity to pass on should that occur. It hasn’t happened yet, but I think it will. I’m guessing the iPhone 5s battery or security updates and such will end some day. Maybe not.

Life was easier with sometimes better sounding flip phones IMHO. Smart phones are definitely a cool and useful tool though. Sure beats the monster walkie talkies I first used. Hey! I now get to play with my phone and new thermostat/humidistat that I didn’t expect to have. Why should Mrs. Apple have all the fun with her iPad?
Cheers!
