Here's something that gets me:

I don't know how much energy it takes to make a new car, but it has to be way more than you will ever save in fuel by switching to a hybrid. That would mean that the most eco-friendly thing to do would be to keep driving the car you have until it falls apart, not ditch it for a Prius. Right?

Not to mention the fact that in a few years when you have to replace the electric motors and/or the batteries on your hybrid car, you're going to spend upwards of $7000. Are you going to save that much money in gas over those 5 years? Probably not.
Which is why the book value of Hybrid cars goes down so fast after 3 years because at 5 you got to start putting big money in them. They are a joke for sure if people think they will save them money.

I've been taking light rail to work for the past two years. It's way less stress and doesn't take that much longer than being stuck in traffic. Plus, I use about 1 tank of gas a month. I figure I save somewhere around $2000 a year on parking alone! With gas at $4 a gallon, it would be about another $1500 a year to fill the tank. That's $3500 plus or minus total, compared to $40 a month for a bus pass ($480 a year)!

I'm green with envy. I take the bus, also known as a box full of sick people. It's $30 per week less than driving, it's slow, there are long waits, and it adds an hour to my commute (thereby subtracting an hour from my day). It is absolutely the worst form of transportation I've ever had the misery of using. I should just pay the extra $30 per week. My life would be better.

The thing that gets me is that everybody in the developed world have been doing what they can to cut their energy usage, across the board, but Americans, the biggest consummers per head of population, and the biggest polluters in the world, still dont seem to care!
Get with it, please

Yeah man, Portland is king as far as alternative transportation goes. I sort of ended up here by luck, but they seem to have it really though out.
