Hey Rudy,

Did you get a reply on your craigslist post yet? A lot of times you can have things sold within a day or so.

Guitar stores can be a bit iffy. Many demand a 20 to 25% 'consignment' charge on whatever you sell through them. Check out www.gbase.com to find out what dealers are REALLY selling used guitars and amps for.

Is it really a secret that music store business is in the business to make as much money they can. They're not tricking anyone when they tell you they're offering you wholesale price on your item, so the can sell it retail. That's how they make money. Yes, the price difference is quite much, that's how they make the money. The consignment, you're using their store, that you don't have to pay rent and people come in due to their advertising. So I personally think it's fair what they charge. But that's me.

My understanding on consignments (and I've sold a couple of guitars and amps in that way), is that one still has ownership on the item, and (in my experience), the dealer does that for you as a favor for the potential cut of the money, when/if that item sells. In an outright sale to a dealer, the money the seller gets is normally less than a consignment (unless things have changed dramatically these days), AND you no longer own the guitar, amp or whatever item you sold them. You get less for that transaction because now the owner has yet one more item in the shop that THEY own, that they have to sell. Dealers don't own consignments. And yes, I understand the concept of 'overhead'.

BTW, dealers don't offer sellers wholesale amounts on a USED item. They will offer you what they think it is worth buying it for, the offer will definitely be under market value (the dealer needs to sell it AT LEAST AT market value), and they definitely will try to make as much profit on it as possible. Dealers do NOT offer sellers 'Blue Book' or VG Price Guide amounts in cash on a used guitar or amp. EVER.
