mmkay, blame the game not the idiot that decide the game - this one game, is his future. My sarcasm meter might be off btw.

So I like Guitar Hero. That's why i wanted to play guitar. But seriously, who would be crazy enough to TRY to make a career out of it?!?!?! He should just learn how to play REAL guitar, start a band, and make money that way!

Believe it or not, there are professional video gamers who make lucrative careers out of it. Most of the money is in Asia. The competition is fierce. I heard an interview with one young man who has consistently made in the neighborhood of $500K per year for four or five years. Listening to him it was clear he is a professional. His attitude toward the game, the competition, and how to be a winner is very professional.

The following article gives a flavor of the whole scene:

Now, this is a new one. I've heard of dropping out of school to play real guitar, but Guitar Hero???????????? Give me a break. Makes me mad.

Yeah, but that's also a no guarantee in playing guitar and make money, be famous, etc. Nothing is a guarantee in life, but hey, if he can make a carreer out of GH be it. The parents should be questioned about that.

I understand theres money in it, but at the local level he's competing in, there isn't nearly enough to make a living out of. When the game eventually fades away (hopefully it will eventually), he has no career. He'll then be flipping my burgers or bagging my groceries at 45.

The most telling comment, IMHO?

"They would have preferred that he stay in high school with his brother. But he bugged them until they let him quit.

"We couldn't take the complaining anymore," says Hunter. "He always told me that he thought school was a waste of time." "

My 14-year-old complains about a lot of things, but I'm the adult and he's the kid.

Discuss.

I agree!
This is getting so ridiculus, anymore I DESPISE guitar hero, it just getting to be an excuse for kids to be lazy and pretend they are doing something productive.

I hope the parents were foolish enough to finance him by getting a second mortgage on their double-wide.

ugghhh get rid of these people from our gene pool!!!!

guitar hero is a great inspiration to those who care. Yes, he'd be better off wipin off table 4. DOn't worry, he'll realize his mistake and do one of these things:

1. shoot himself

2. go back and get a highschool diploma and start a new life

3. beg till he decides to do either 1 or 2

It figures. This kid obviously had life handed to him on a silver platter. The parents are probably going to end up paying for that little luxury in spades.

I always found it interesting that, in talking with my friends that have high school aged kids, the #1 reason that they (the parents) spent money for their kids' college education wasn't necessarily so the kids could have a better life, but seemed to be instead to GET THEM OUT OF THE HOUSE. And those parents also hope that the kids don't come back to live at home when that's done.
