My first guitar was a very cheap, no name, acoustic made in Korea.

After about 20 years of being too busy, I'm now back to learning to play - but electric now.

I've re-started my guitar affair with a Squier '51 - can't believe how good a $99 guitar can sound. So far my only mods have been Dunlop Strap Locks and some new knobs via Guitarfetish.

And to stop my Strat GAS attack, I've picked up a Squier Standard Stratocaster in Cherryburst. Once again, it's hard to believe how good the guitar plays and how gorgeous it looks. And all for a mere $200. The only mod will be the Dunlop Strap Locks.

I could afford more expensive gear, but the Squier gear is so well made and looks and sounds great. Why not start "cheap" and work my way up to a dreamy Fender American Deluxe Ash Stratocaster in Tobacco Sunburst with a Rosewood Fret Board

Squier 51's are such a great value and versatile, I'm glad I picked up a vintage blonde before they discontinued it. I wish I had time to buy a second new one though! :D

I started on a rental guitar--a very high action nylon string classical acoustic. Played that for a few months--took six weeks just to make a barre chord on it... :) (BTW, guitar was my second instrument--I'd already been playing clarinet for six years at that point, so I already knew rhythms, time signatures, keys, scales, etc.)

When I got frustrated at not being able to make barre chords, we traded it in (still a rental) for a Cort P-Bass clone. Played that for three months. Traded that in (still a rental) for an Ibanez LP clone. Played that for several months.

Then, as the store we were renting from had a "rent-to-purchase" policy, all of those rental fees added up to enough to buy a guitar--I got a Peavey T-15 (natural finish). Fantastic guitar for the money... Had that for 21 years... Recently traded it in for credit toward a Tele.

Now, most of the time when I'm playing or practicing or writing, I'm playing a Jasmine/Takamine acoustic-electric, actually. I tend to play/practice/write on the acoustic much of the time.

After that, I'd say, the Tele and after that, the Strat.

I have only one electric guitar which is my '96 Fender Traditional Fat Strat.
Bought it new in 1998, still using it now, and probably can continue using it for many years to come.
Before I bought my strat, I was playing a Yamaha nylon guitar, however, I got my right hand position wrong and could not proceed further after a few years. The Yamaha nylon guitar was the first thing I bought with my own salary with my first job. It was many years ago from now.

My first guitar was an electric obtained from Sears I think, not sure of the brand. The amp was from Sears too. Somebody gave me a cheap acoustic 6 string and I beat on that and the electric for a few years - garage band stuff mostly with the occasional school dance gig - until they finally just fell apart from the trashing I gave them. Got into the military and spent 7 years gigging here and abroad, and acquiring and divesting myself of all kinds of guitars, most of whose brands and models I've long since forgotten. Left the military and came back stateside in the early 80's with 3 Fenders (a Lead I, a hard-tail Strat, and a 6 string acoustic), a Rickenbacker semi-hollow body electric, and a Les Paul in tow. Sold 'em all after getting married, then acquired an Explorer, another Strat, and a Yamaha acoustic 12 string so I could perform in the Twin Cities in the 80's. Sold the axes and moved South in the late 80's and stayed out of music for about a decade. I now have 2 acoustics (Epi and Yamaha) a new Strat (Mexi), a Kramer Focus (83?), and a Peavey Fury bass (80's issue) for playing and recording. Next acquisition will probably be a Tele.

My first guitar was a Sears guitar made by Danelectro, a solid body. single pickup. Next in early 60s, I purchased an Epiphone Crestwood Custom, that was made by Gibson. Late 60s purchased a Fender Precision Bass. Neck has date of 1964 on it. In my later years I recently purchased a 1962 Fender Jazzmaster Reissue, an American Telecaster, and a Vintage 1957 Stratocaster reissue. Had Fender Bassman Amp in 60s, 70s, and 80s. Also a Fender Rhodes Piano, Fender Fretless Precision Bass, that I later traded for a 1962 Fender Jazz Bass reisuue. All fine made products.

My first was a Kay steel string acoustic, bought with S&H GREEN STAMPS! Then I moved on to a Harmony electric. Then I had a Gibson SG bass, as a teen. As a young adult I had a nylon string acoustic, which my younger son destroyed.

All those guitars are gone. Now I have a Tele, an Ibanez GAX and a Yamaha acoustic. I am a classroom teacher so I bring the Yamaha to school with me. The Ibanez is for when I go places by subway. The Tele hasn't left my house yet. I am over-protective.
