My oldest is actually quite good at it, but then again he's a drummer.

I love guitar hero and think it's a fantastic game. I don't understand the apparant mutual animosity between the 'just play real guitar' people (who are not always real guitarists) and the sometimes obsessive folks who play the game.

It's a ton of fun, especially with a group of friends. Is it guitar? Of course not .. it's pushing buttons on a glorified fisher-price toy. When I want to have some guick fun I fire up the 360 and play a tune or twenty. When it's time to get serious I warm up the tubes and plug in my Strat and do the real thing. Hopefully the game will inspire someone to pick up a real guitar, or maybe turn a current guitarist onto a new musician's work.

Just wait until Rock Band comes out with the (totally awesome) mini-Strat controller!

yeah, i noticed that the game is more than a little partial to the gibsons... it just proves that they don't have good taste...lol. i've never played myself, but i just think that people get a little too adamant about it. seriously, it's a game, lighten up! anyway, thanks for the comment. i knew that when i started this topic people would respond to it.

"Guitar Hero" is a video game. It has nothing to do with playing the guitar.

Playing games and making music are two different things.

Because everybody knows that some guitar players get weirdly upset over the existence of a game with a guitar-shaped controller, this thread is a kind of trolling.

Exactly! I think everyone in this thread is taking it too seriously. It's not a new technology that's threatening to replace the guitar, nor is it meant to be a cheap variation. It's just a video game about guitar and if you can see it as that it's pretty fun to play with your friends, too.

it's not so much the idea of the game that appalls me, it's the people who think that they're better than me because they beat it, or whatever you do with it. seriously, it's a video game, not an acutal guitar. i just tell me to let me know when they can play the solo on Seize the Day by Avenged Sevenfold on an actual guitar, and then i might listen to them.

Yes and No. yes because I've been wanting a video game with a guitar theme to be made. :) no because the game is a lot easier than actual guitar, so when people get good at the game they think guitar is easy, which it's not!!! :x

So, you think that if people get real good at Grand Theft Auto, they think it would be equally easy to live the thug life in Miami? Do you think that since I can go well under par at Wii Golf that i imagine I could do the same on a real course?

I don't think so. :D

It just bugs guitar players because the controller is shaped like a guitar. There have been other music games almost identical in play to Guitar Hero that used a standard controller, and nobody even noticed them, let alone got their panties in a bunch. In fact, the company that makes GUitar hero (Harmonix) made two games just like it: FreQuncy and Ammplitude, both of which used electro-pop music and a standard controller to perform almost exactly as GUitar Hero does.

The only difference is A) rock music B) a guitar shaped controller.

Guitar hero makes the guitar look easier than it really is.

No, I don't think that! i know there's a big difference between video games and life. but some people don't think there's a difference. My cousin, for example, isn't old enough to drive, but he tells me he's a better driver because he's better at the video games.

I think guitar hero is awesome. It's a lot of fun to play with friends. People that think they are better than real guitar players because they are good at guitar hero are pretty much being ridiculous and should be ridiculed. I wouldn't take any of these people seriously and nor should you.

For me Guitar hero is just a way to pass time. I dont consider it practice or anything. My brother and I will take turns with the controller while the other tries to play the songs on the real guitar. Its just fun to mess with especially with friends and stuff.

yep, very fun for parties and such... maybe the occasional finger workout, but i don't play it religiously or anything, its fun to pass time every once in a while though, its just the people who play that game for like 7 hours a day and think they're rock gods because of it annoys me
