Part of the foolishness of this thread is how it's really narrowly confined to one, or at best two, genres - Rock/Blues, Pop.

I suspect only a select few will know any of these names, though a true guitar afficiando would know most of them:

Pepe Romero, Sharon Isbin, Leona Boyd, Andres Segovia, Julian Bream, Grant Green, Paco De Lucia, Pat Martino, Andrew York, Charlie Byrd, Alvin 'Youngblood' Hart, Amos Garrett, Anson Funderburgh, Cesar Rosas, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Joe Pass, Al DiMeola, Earl Klugh, Barney Kessel, Ed Bickert, John McLaughlin, John Scofield, Herb Ellis.... and waay too many others to name here.

Start adding some of these guys into the mix and many of the 'Greats' previously mentioned in this thread would fade to obscurity...

If you're walking around thinking that any 'Best of...' List is restricted only to shuffling Hendrix, Clapton, Townshend, Keefer, Vai, Gallagher, Cooder, Slash, SRV, EVH, and such into some kind of pecking order, you REALLY need to do a whole lot more listening !!

cheers!

Very insightful from a guitar player point of view. I thought about after the death of Jimi Hendrix there was a void in the guitar world. Then in 1973 listening to radio while in the UK I heard the first song off Twice Removed from Yesterday by Robin Trower and thought that it doesn't fill the void completely but I hope this guitar player stays around awhile.

Randy Hanson is the absolute best of the Hendrix tribute artists bacause he doesn't only cover the songs that Jimi did but he feels every note he plays just as Jimi did when he wrote the songs.Randy Hanson not only plays Jimi's music ,he channels him.

Al Hendrix (Jimi's father) was at a Seattle venue celebrating what would've been Jimi's 50th birthday and was chatting to Randy while walking to an after venue meet and greet party, when they came to a door Randy motioned for the elder Hendrix to go ahead of him to which Jimi's dad responded"After you Jimi!"That's quite an honor for Jimi's father to bestow on someone that he had just met but something about Randy's performance must have told him that Randy was just something more than another Jimi wannabe.
