Jimi vs. SRV? Must have been a hell of a fight.

I hear they're both dead.

fendergep, did you dream it? Stevie was such a big fan of Jimi that I think he would have spoken of it often if anything like that happened. He did meet Albert King, several times I think. If he would have asked Albert King that sorta stuff, Albert would have acted just like that. Jimi was so laid back that he would have probably jammed with SRV and let him play one of his guitars. The encounter sounds more like one with AK.

I have every book written on Jimi and Stevie never met Jimi, this is a urban myth.

Who cares? They both sucked.

Just kidding. This question can be asked again and again, but no one will ever truly know. It's all a matter of opinion. Some days I like Jimi, other days I like SRV. They both blow me away.

I think the asking which of two great artists is better than the other is unproductive.

I really fail to comprehend this kind of thought process.

Apples vs. Oranges. There's really no comparison IMO. Jimi is the best Jimi there ever was, and Stevie was the best Stevie. There's also way more to SRV than Jimi, I just think that since Jimi was his most famous influence people tend to latch onto it more than his other influences.

I remember seeing a Stevie interview on youtube where he talk about Jimi, and how he wished he could've met him but never did. I know for a fact that Jimmie Vaughan (Stevie's older brother) had a band called Texas Storm that actually opened for Hendrix and that Jimmie Vaughan got to meet him. That's apparently how Stevie got a hold of that vox wah pedal, Jimmie got it from Jimi in a trade or something.

But hey, don't take my word for it!

Hey folks. this poll was already asked as citizenerased said. If you are new to the forum, go through the past pages of TOPICS already posted and you will see many of the new topics being posted are already here.

Then you can answer them there and that topic will move to the beginning of the list for other new sign-ons to see.

That's what I did when I signed-on as a newbie. There are so many interesting topics not to be missed."

Mike, resurrection with a smile :D when the above post was written the Forum was only four pages long

+! Texas and thanks for posting the video. That must be the reference that fendergep was talking about.

Good bump!

I think it all comes down to the wood their fingerboards were made from...

Hi modwiz: I've a feeling the first time Mike asked the question in 2007 he had a mischievous little sparkle in the corner of his eye. And the second time he's asked it, now in 2013, he definitely has an enormous sparkle in his eye.

I'm looking forward to seeing this thread again in 2019...

Cheers - C

SRV's a mockery of a bluesman. He sounds about as 'blue' as the wiggles or some other children shows music.

Hendrix, is good. Wouldn't consider him the blues, but man can I feel his guitar playing. SRV on the other hand, I can feel bugger all, most likely cause he tries to play a bunch of emotions he probably doesn't have in the first place.

Jimi hands down..

While SRV had amazing chops, and was a monster player, probably none of that would have happened without Hendrix.

Jimi changed the game for ever.

SRV mastered a piece of it.
