Yep, asked and answered.

But I'll play again: Jimi Hendrix, IMHO he paved the way.

I'm with Jimi on this one.

Hey folks. this poll was already asked as citizenerased said. If you are new to the forum, go through the past pages of TOPICS already posted and you will see many of the new topics being posted are already here.

Then you can answer them there and that topic will move to the beginning of the list for other new sign-ons to see.

That's what I did when I signed-on as a newbie. There are so many interesting topics not to be missed.

Jimi!

SRV's tone came from him wanting to sound like Jimi. How do I know this fact? SRV's amp tech, the late César Diaz’ talks about in this interview http://www.tonequest.com/pdf_pubs/samples/TQRDiaz.pdf.

this book that i have has an interview with SRV about the jimi covers and i cant quote it right now but it was sumthin along the lines of SRV askin him to show him a riff cus he realy loved it. jimi shows him a riff and then says what else do you like? so SRV names sumthin else and jimi shows him again. then SRV gets greedy and says what about this one and jimi goes "nope that's all you get" and walks away with a smile on his face. SRV was laughing about it in the interview. anyone that loves SRV knows he was a huge fan of jimi so what does it matter if he wanted to have a similar sound? they are too different styles. its in the book that comes with the 3 cd set "S.R.V."

IMO, Stevie for playing and technique. Jimi for creativity. From that standpoint they are apples and oranges. Yeah, without Jimi maybe no Stevie; but maybe without The Beatles, no Jimi. You can go on and on.

As far as Jimi and Stevie meeting, I've never heard of it, but maybe so. I think somehow Jimmie Vaughan was playing in a band that opened 2 or 3 shows for Jimi, but I don't know how he pulled that off. Jimi was king from '68 until he was really killed by mismanagement.

I have that CD set with the book in it. I glanced through it after I read your first post and didn't see anything about them meeting.
