I've got no advice for you, but it's something I've always wanted to learn, just for the sake of having another technique in my arsenal. Some slide players can really make the guitar scream. Check out Derek Trucks. Makes the guitar sound like a female's voice.

make sure you don't touch the slide to the neck, only touch the strings.... higher actions seem to work better as well, its not as easy to hit the fretboard

Try different tunings, raise your string height, think outside the box.

Good luck

No advice - I do own a slide but haven't really worked on that part of playing (yet).

I do think it's really cool sounding.

It's a very cool tool. I do not have any advice either, but I have seen it used by many musicians. Love watching/listening to Pink Floyds slide style.

Duane Allman.....listen to him if you're interested in learning slide guitar.

A lot of great blues slide is done in Open G tuning. There are lots of books out there on slide techniques.

Many players prefer to use the ring finger, but try it with your middle or pinky fingers if it feels more natural to you. Learn to drag your unused fingers *behind* the slide to mute undesired notes. Glass, metal, and ceramic slides all feel and sound different. Best of luck!
