Sad news, rest easy... :(

Met him once at The Chatham Bars Inn, nice guy to chat with. Originally from Boston.

Wish it was just a hoax...

He strung his guitar .016-.060, standard tuning. That's like playing overhead power lines.

I just thank my luck to have experienced Dick’s compositions and his great performances. A true original that made a difference. We’ll miss you DD but the tunes will surf on.

Aloha and peace

FSB

Thanks, for the notification, Mike.

Had the Pleasure in recent years to see Dick Dale 3 times... twice in New Orleans and once here in MSP - All 3 Amazing shows !

Respect to Quentin Tarentino for boosting Dale's later career using his songs in the soundtrack for Pulp Fiction. This sold a lot of Tix to Dale's shows.

In fact the last time I saw Dick Dale, he played Misirlou and a Millennial woman shouted out: "Just like Pulp Fiction..."

Dale snapped back: "Baby, I invented this chit... !"

Sadly Dick's health had been failing for some time and he toured just to pay his medical expenses. Sometimes accompanied by his son Jimmy on Drums, in 2016 his wife Lana, a Registered Nurse, joined the Tour just to look after him. Lana would actually sit off to the side on stage, ready to assist him if needed.

I was backstage the last time I saw Dick and took this pic. You can see Lana (Blond woman) sitting off to the left.

Condolences to Lana, Jimmy, Family and Friends !

R.I.P. Dick... Thanks for the Music

I was just reading somewhere else about the Showman amp that Leo gave him. Dick was
a gladiator and never took the pain meds during his treatments and procedures.

I think it was at his concert at Howlin' Wolf back in 2014 that Dale told the Story and that Leo said to him "Dick, you're a real Showman..." and he named the Showman Amp after Dale.

cheers!

I saw him play at The Asylum in Portland Maine. When he played "Third Stone From The Sun" by Hendrix he started it with "Well Jimi I'm still here". The line about "We'll never hear Surf Music again" was a reference to Dale being in the hospital with Colon Cancer in the 60's.
