Post subject: Better sustain, some advice ?

for legato because it loses a tone.But with some effect it has better sound. should i use them or try to do it best without it?

You can increase sustain with a compressor, but pedals are not a substitute for practice and proper technique. These are things you can not learn online.
You mentioned that you are self-taught, you really need to find an instructor.

I practice most of the time without amp or distortion. But most of the lost tone is with the slides. hammer ons and pull offs are good.(sorry for english).

That is to be expected. Without an amp or some kind of compression on the signal, without careful technique, the tone will drop off quickly on slides.

What works for me is that when I want more sustain I hum a few notes. Fools ‘em every time. :P
