Hello People,

Let me start off by saying, Im no expert so please forgive me if I make mistakes in what im saying.

I have attached quite a few pictures so you can get a better idea of the guitar.

The story behind this interesting guitar.

About 6-7 years ago it was given to my father who does clearances, he gave it to me and said the person who gave it to him said, it was one of the Edge's first guitars, sorry I know U2 but at the time I did not know who the edge was.

My dad had the email address of the person I got it from, I emailed him to ask the question and his reply was:

As for history, I bought it off a bloke who lived in Kirk Michael on the Isle of Man around the early 1990's. He claimed to have been an old school friend of The Edge who plays guitar for U2 and that the guitar had originaly been The Edge's first guitar that had been passed on to him when he moved on to better things.

The guitar wasn't priced as memorabilia and I never actually spoke to the school friend, but rather his dad, who talked about how The Edge still kept in touch sporadically etc. I had no reason to doubt the claim that the guitar had been The Edge's as they weren't getting anything out of it - I didn't even know who he was at the time.

That is the story behind this piece, which might mean something or mean nothing at all.

I cant find any serial numbers on it, as you can see it is in the condition it is, I think all the bits are there.

Can anyone shed some light of what this guitar may be and maybe the value of it.

I would love to get in touch with the edge himself but I dont think he would get back. Unless your on here ?

Sorry not sure how to add pictures , you can view them buy copying and pasting this link :

First you need to upload your pics to the internet. Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.
The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' or 'https' and ending in '.jpg' .

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

I was feeling adventurous, so I clicked the link. That is not a Fender guitar. There's a (slight) chance it's some Squier model, but just as well any of the numerous copies. I'll call it not original (for what ever it used to be), and thus any text on the pics (only shown are a fake "Fender" logo on the headstock, "Made in Japan" on the neck plate) can't be trusted.
In trying to recognize a guitar, markings on the neck pocket and neck heel can help a lot, so pics with the neck off if you want to investigate it further, please. Same with pickup pics from the underside, and with the pickup covers off, close ups from both sides of that switch, pot markings etc.

But the value of the guitar does not rely on what it is. If it's Mr. Edge's first guitar, it's valuable. And I'd guess he didn't start playing with a real Fender, so anything is possible. Note: it's not likely, but it's a good story, anyway.
Maybe try the horse's mouth directly, he's been in the FMIC Board of Directors since 2014.
consumerrelations@fender.com is one address you could start with.
