why do you think that now adays little kids can get more credit for being good at guitar hero, because they can hit 5 little buttons really fast while pretending that their plastic strats really have 21 frets. i mean come on all of the adults hang around the snotty 7 year old at Best Buy all day long

Cam, no offense, but you've started A LOT of threads recently.

You might want to practice the age old idiom: Quality before Quantity.

Think about if your topic is going to add a lot to the Forum's here, or if it might fit in another thread that's already started.

What I think is stupid is that with the amount of time and energy that people put in to Guitar Hero, they could actually have become decent at playing an actual guitar.

I like the idea that Guitar Hero gets people at least interested in the guitar and guitar music. I've heard people brag about thier guitar hero skills and also have encountered those who just like to play and do not think it qulifies them as a guitar slinger.

Saying Guitar Hero makes you a guitar player is like saying playing Splinter Cell makes you a spy.

I agree, everybody is getting lots of credit because they can play "expert" on guitar hero. But nobody gives credit to where credit is due.(people that can actually play guitar)

So, first Guitar Hero came out so you could play rockstar (life imitating art). How long do you think it will be before albums that are recorded on Guitar Hero start coming out (art imitating life)?

Bluegrass and Sulley have good points.

At least "Guitar Hero" makes it possible they generate interest in something with a positive cultural future.

As opposed to "Grand Theft Auto."

But a kid can have a nice Squier and amp for the game's cost....

I'll say it again, guitar players are far too sensitive about Guitar Hero.

It's a bleeding game. I don't know anyone who thinks that they are a great guitar player because of Guitar Hero. Most people I know that play Guitar Hero also play guitar. I also don't know of anyone who gets "lots of credit" for playing Guitar Hero on expert.

I do know of quite a few people who've made millions of dollars playing guitar.

The people who blur the line between the game and the real thing are the people who think they're better because they play a real guitar.

If people who play Guitar Hero should learn to play a real guitar, they should also paint themselves blue and run really fast, and stomp on crabs. They should get a sword and dress in green clothes and chase fairies around to save their kingdom. They should drive as fast as possible and intentionally hit things.

It's threads like these (and the Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers threads) that bring out the worst in this forum of normally reasonable people.

+1, completely agree. Who cares people? It's a game. Stop having fits over the smallest things.

lesten, Guitar Hero is a game. What? I can't play Madden AND football now? I can't play Tony Hawks' and skate now? What's the big deal? I'm sick of video game like this being seen as for "7 year olds" I'm 14 (most 7-year-olds I meet think GH is stupid because it has [i'm not lying here] "Bad Boy Rock" on it) and still love to play it, almost as much as I love to play the real guitar.

i would also like to say that guitar hero also has helped me strengthen my fingers, especially my pinkie, in which was absolutely non- usable before i started, but nothing comes close to the feeling u get from playing your own riffs

The South Park episode "Guitar Queer-o" captures this whole argument brilliantly:
