I'll 2nd that. I loved Ritchie Blackmore's playing in Deep Purple. He always played super clean. Deep Purple depended heavily on Jon Lord overdriving his Hammond organ into distortion. That's how that band got their distortion, but if you listen to any of Ritchie Blackmore, he's true clean player especially on the solo for Burn. That's razor sharp clean & true playing. No fuzz boxes to cover up mistakes.

True! I remember Pete more as an SG player. His Strat days came much later. The Trower observation is dead on. He's turned out quite a few records, but none that matched the popularity of Bridge of Sighs which is probably why he doesn't come immediately to mind when these questions come up. In fact, I think I'll play that right now.
