Perhaps the fact that he plays an instrument and is professional in something other than his musicianship has gained him some recognition by Fender.

Although, I've wondered one thing. If someone has a sponsorship to Fender, then does that mean you also get a sponsorship for other Fender brands too? I just started thinking about it. :?

I would think that by getting a big name skateboarder, Fender is hoping that (even though you say he's not that great) people who like skateboarding will look at him, and say "Hey, he plays a Fender, I want a Fender now too"

Ya I am with you it is just to get the name out there. Imagine seeing a Nascar race and someone like Tony Stewert driving a car with a guitar painted on the hood and a amp on the rear deck and the name Fender on the sides. He may not even play a guitar but it gets the name out.

Sponsorships are more about advertising than endorsement.

My uncle is a harness horse driver, and he had several companies offer sponsorships. I don't know if he ever took them, but I know he didn't use their products.

Although one of them was Chili's...

Since when does being a good guitar player matter if ya get an endorsement? Doesnt the guy from Green Day and the guy from Smashing Pumpkins both have their own signature model?

Sorry :?

Ray Barbee was a member of Powell Peralta's Bones Brigade in the late 80s and early 90s. He has alywas played music from what I can remember. He and Chuck Treece have done many musical projects, including McCrad. As far as him being a pro for Element, many of the older or skaters are sponsored, but may not necessarily have a pro model out by the company that sponsors them...

First off, if you know anything about skateboarding, Ray is one of the originators of street skateboarding and has been skating since the early 80's. Yes he is 45 so obviously he cannot keep up with with all the teenage kids who skin tight green jeans. Second off all, Ray rips on the guitar and has been putting out albums since 2003 and records all the instruments himself. He also plays in a jazz group with the mattson 2. Don't be ignorant and just base your opinion off things you read or hear in the internet. Ray is a legend. You are not, thats why you are posting on this "forum." Ray has major respect from both the skating and music industry. Their is no endorment scheme here, just supporting a true OG.
