Now, this has nothing to do with my girlfriend and my guitars, cause if it did, she'd be out the door. Now that we're past that disclaimer:

My girlfriends car's a/c went out the other day, and since this is Alabama, and it's WAY too hot to drive without one, I was nice enough to let her borrow my car until the evil Ford shop could fix hers, which left me in my truck. (See what a good boyfriend I am? Do you know how bad gas is in a full sized Silverado?) Anyway, some storms rolled through today, and as we're coming in from our evening walk, she figured she would mention to me "So, I'm guessing some shingles or something from the roof of work blew off today, cause there's some black gritty stuff that's on your car, do you think we should wash it off?"

Umm, yeah. Why did you just now think to mention that to me?

Why do some things that should be REALLY important, like washing gunk off of a car, not seem very important to females? What could have been so important today that she didn't think to take a hose to my car when she got out to my house to rinse it off?

If all else fails, keep the Silverado. It sounds like it's reliable.

Everything is relative. Washing a car? Only if you can't see out of the windows and then ONLY if I can con the kids in to doing it....

Same with my motorcycle. I know guys who preen over their bikes, but to me, it is a conveyance. Again, wash it if it gets too dirty or can get the kids to do it. I will never own another chrome-laden ANYTHING. Cleaning time is time that can be better spent playing guitar, riding, or whatever....

so in my world, washing a car isn't important to me, either. Maybe she just wanted to spend more time with you than the car?

Good luck with that....

I once dated a girl who was OBSESSED with keeping her car spotless. Actually, she was obsessed with keeping EVERYTHING spotless. I couldn't handle that. Maybe you just need a girlfriend with the same priorities.

Right, but all three of those subjects can lead to intellectual debate far beyond what we're getting in this thread.

Hey, my wife doesn't think cleaning her van is a priority either. Get in my car is spotless, her van, full of junk. She let's the kids eat/drink in the van, I won't let food in my car.

Just remember, you love her the way she is right? :D

Right, I love her. She puts up with my guitars and guns habit.

But I love my Cobalt too. It's bright yellow, and I would like it to stay that way. Shingle crud normally doesn't react well with a cars paint.

Imagine you let your girlfriend/wife play your guitar at a bar (We're assuming she plays, if not, just pretend) and she came back and some guy had spit out his tobacco on your guitar, and she didn't think to clean it off. Same principal, different situation, changed slightly to fit your sensibilities.

I don't disagree with you, that's why my car stays clean. I know what you mean.

Okay, maybe. Since it's yellow  I have a yellow nissan crew cab and can understand how bad that might look. And I dono't kow a thing about shingle crud, so I can't say, but I think I understand. that might be one of those situations where I would also wonder why didn't she take the time....

But other than that...

Women just have different priorities than men. Just dont ask her to take your guitar somewhere for you.

It might be too late for that. I routinely have her take my guitars out to the truck after gigs, as most of the time we've got club owners and fans and stuff trying to talk to us, and I'm ready to get out of there and take her home, so I get her to do the carrying of stuff she can, while I'm doing the rock-star thing.
