Because I live in the stick my local guitar store is Musician's Friend. When I have to drive to Richmond, Virginia for something I visit the GC and SA there. Have bought guitars and amps from both, but over the last 6 years I've used MF for about 30 orders and have never had a problem. Amps, guitars, and supplies always arrive in 3 days.

I check Craigslist several times daily. You never know when something will show up. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a American Deluxe Tele for $750 off of Craigslist, about 30 minutes after the guy posted the ad.

I do stop by our Guitar Center monthly, just to keep touch with a couple of the good sales guys. I always go early before it gets out of hand.

Well after shipping and tax and all that,
it's just a matter of
A) Do you want to wait?
B) Would you rather throw in the couple extra bucks to play an instrument that you can try out and see how you like it?

I can usually get a better price in-store than online though

Yeah, most stores will usually match prices, which in that case you have a win-win situation :)

I would have to go with local, i live in canada so there is no guitar centers that I know of. But Long and Mquade is probably the closest thing, but still the closest one is 3 hours away from my house. so i do all of my buying at local shops.

gc is about the only place in my area that carries the brands i like. there are 1 or two used shops that get a gem every once and a while though.

I always try stuff at GC and then head to my local shop and order what I want. They usually match or beat GC's price anyway. I don't mind waiting if they have to order something because their service is so good!
