so where's your favorite place to shop?

local music stores?

chain music stores?

online?

i personally enjoy the local music stores because you can get to know the people working there and they can get to know you which makes for a better experience.

the only place that i have around me is a chain Guitar Center. They have lots of cool stuff but i feel that the fact that its a big chain takes away from that personal touch that some smaller stores i have been to seem to have.

KC Mo has a few choices there are a couple of Guitar Centers (which I try to avoid at all cost)

Then there is the Musicians Friend Clearance Center where you can go if you want a project, or deal of the day by sifting through returns and broken items. You can also go to the website and pick out what you want and get it on the spot, which is a nice way to save on shipping costs.

Then you can travel over to the KS side of the city and you have Guitar Source which is a pretty nice independent store that has survived beatings from the conglomerates.

Then a little further west you can hit Lawrence Ks, and Mass Street Music. This is where you go if you want to look and try your boutique items, or locate vintage pedals etc...

There are a few more but these are the cream of the crop in my neck of the woods...

Guitar Stop, for new Fender guitars, basses, parts & accessories, either in the store at 1760 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA between Porter & Harvard Sq or online at www.guitarstop.com.

Then I am biased -because it is my store.

I like shopping local. Mostly because there are no chain-stores where I live.

I'm always going to my local music store and trying everything out that I possibly can. I tend to buy things online though, usually seems to work out cheaper.

I started going to this place in 1993 when I was in high school:

http://www.ontario-music.com/

Its just down the street from the school I went to. I spent a lot of time there when I was supposed to be in class. I shop at guitar center a lot too.

I like going to guitar center just because there is always a ton of stuff to see. I spend more time there looking at stuff I only wish I could buy than anything. Sometimes the salespeople get on my nerves. Like maybe the person will have this attitude like they think they are just so great or whatever but all they do is work at a music store. Big deal! Okay, I'm done.

The guitar center near me is great (Natick, MA) and the only decent local shop here carries Crafter and Dillion....

I prefer the Musician Supply right down the street. I also buy off of (do I dare say it?) ebay.

I was looking at musiciansfriend.com just now. They have some cool stuff on the stupid deal of the day page sometimes. I think that site might be owned by guitar center or something. If you look at the guitar center website they are very similar. I remember there used to be ads for musicians friend in the guitar center mailer.
