Who cares? If you don't like them, don't listen to them. I never understood people incessantly whining about bands they don't like. Who cares if other people like them? Let them waste their money and keep on listening to what you are. Sure it might be hard to avoid them with all the publicity they get, but I don't really see how it's that big of a deal. Just walk away or make a suggestion to people as to some other artists they may like. Going around and calling everyone a "gaywad" is just going to make you sound like an idiot to them. If you sound like an idiot, why would they take your opinion on music or anything seriously?

They're not terribly difficult to avoid. In fact, if I didn't live with my teenage sister who likes them and watches the networks that they appear on, I'd have only seen them on the New Years Eve party, a bit on Craig Ferguson's show, and this thread.

I know nothing about them. I haven't listened to the Teen Beat stuff since the days of Donny Osmond. I gotta tell ya though, if I was 16 years old and someone was giving me wheelbarrows full o'money to play stuff for the teeny boppers I'd do it. Beats working at McDonalds for the summer. While your whining about them and treasuring your "art", they're going to buy a big ol house when they're 18. Nothing wrong with making yourself set for life.

The free market has spoken!!! The Jonas Brothers are on the cover of Rolling Stone, have an album soaring through the charts, and are selling out shows worldwide in seconds. That means they are not only for real, but they're the best today's music has to offer. We all need the album and the t-shirt!!!

Either that or each of us should stop caring what Rolling Stone and everyone else has to say / sell and keep listening to something we like...

My daughter loves them... What can I say... it's all about the publicity and media... Can't really blame them... they just a bunch of artist trying to make a fortune just like others... If the media or record label want to kill them they can, so blame it to the media and record label... Wait, can't blame them also, because they sure want to squeeze every penny they can get from this guys.. :D

It's not that I dislike JB (my only exposure to them has been on late night TV), but only that it seems music has entered yet another cycle of hype, with the end result being more hype and not much substance. If that's whining, I plead guilty. But I won't let the 'tween' market dictate my taste in music. They're not the only ones interested in new music! And I'm not stuck in the '70's, '80's, or '90's, either.

From what I can figure out, it seems that The Disney Channel has become what MTV once was about 25 years ago. Success in music based on hype is as old as music as presented on mass media outlets, maybe even before that. Yes, somebody's making money off of it and getting huge exposure, but that doesn't mean it's any good or can survive past a second or third album release.

I probably sound old and cranky. I am. But I haven't heard much of anything that (for me) turned guitar-driven music on it's head since Nirvana. And I'm not really a fan of them (I thought 'Sounds Like Teen Spirit' sounded a bit too much like The Police). Shouldn't new music be raising the bar on what is expected, based on what has gone on before, instead of lowering it? Or should we simply accept what record companies throw at us and buy it because THEY say it's good? I'm not a fan of the 'lowest common denominator', whether it be music, guitars, or anything else.

I don't expect the 'next Nirvana' to be even remotely LIKE Nirvana-but I'm looking for a positive, exciting change that brings guitar-driven music to the next level. JB ain't it to me, and somehow I don't think that's going to change anytime soon, as much as I hope it does.

Teen pop will always be around no matter what genre is in vogue. There's too much money in it. Teens are rabid about the bands they love. If your looking for a guitar driven band try Rose Hill Drive. Google em.
