I bought a few guitars on eBay and all but one had a scratch or a dent (or two). On the other hand, I'm afraid to play my '05 Am. Series Strat because it's just too pretty. It stays in the case most of the time. I think I'll drag it out again after the hurricane passes.

if droped hard enough depending on where the dent is can knock your neck out of line and damage your pick ups. like when i dropped my strat  . but a scratch you can get fixed easily, and also the more you play it, it will eventually get scratches and dents five years from now our most played guitar proly wont have paint on it (may be exaggerating that a bit for dramatic effect.) and five years from now you will be wanting a new guitar

My EJ has already worn thru the neck finish up by the nut and I love it. There's a little ding on the face that has made it way to bare wood. It's starting to age nicely.

I prefer to put in my own scratches and dents (although I try not to).

My guitars never seem to get "reliced". My '86 Strat must have all of two scratches and I'm the original owner.

Always check the guitar out yourself before you buy it. You don't always know where it's been. I have had nothing but troubles when trying to save a buck. It's just like buying a used car because you think it looks great in an ad (pictures).
