Once in a while I find a guitar I like that is less expensive because of some damage. I'm wary about buying a scratch and dent item without seeing it first. This is, of course, is refering to the e-tailers (at a store I could obviously see the damage). This wariness is heightened by the fact the the finish is important, and who wants a guitar with Barney the dinosaur scratched into it by someone elses kid. On some guitars I wouldn't care about damage but this one is transparent blue. Why get something unique (and nice to me) and messed up simultaneously. What are peoples experiences with "SCRATCH and DENT"?

Scratch and dent guitars are not "used" guitars. They're brand new guitars with finish flaws. I've spoken to several people who have scratch and dent guitars with little or no damage.

They aren't structurally damaged, but they may have a scratch or a dent. Hence the classification, "scratch and dent."

I no some that have gotten good deal on guitars that just had a minor blemish on then but they play fine. One of the guys I jam with bought a guitar from Eastwood that was a guitar used at the NAMM show as a demo and got a great price, It had a few almost undetectable pick scratchs but other then that nothing and it was a great player. I told him they would not have taken there if it was't a good playing guitar. Now he has it and loves it.

From what I've heard, some of the scratch and dent specials are guitars that were returned because people decided they didn't like them. In that case, they could be in perfect condition. Besides that, I'm one of the people who think that the more beat to death a guitar looks, the better it is. Just look at Blackie ... 8)

I agree... check out this "scratch and dent special" that I picked up in a pawn shop for $150. I did put the new bridge on it... so TOTAL I have $239 in this MIA Strat.

Scratch and dent isn't all bad... at least you won't be TOO upset when you put your first scratch into it!!! :)

I bought a scratch and dent Blackheart Little Giant 5W amp and it rocks. Hardly a mark on it! A few little scratches on the handle and two small nicks in the tolex. It is a great amp.

I don't mind buying "scratch and dent" guitars when I see them. They usually play fine, and the way I see it, the guitar is eventually going to get marked up, so it's no big deal. If you plan on selling it in the foreseeable future, it's probably not a big investment, but otherwise, I see no problem in it.

Scratch and dents or floor models. It's a great way to save a few bucks. They always come with a full warranty and the problems are always just cosmetic.

Two Things:

1) The more scratches you have; the more scratches you can get.

2) I have never been a particular fan of Gibson SG's, but HemiRam, that SG Diablo is probably the finest I have ever seen. Is it a custom shop?

As long as it's only cosmetic damage--why not check it out.

You can save some money on it.

I've bought some of my guitars used--and they had scratches & dents--but they play well. The ones I bought new all have at least scratches on them. Nothing serious for the most part though. and they all play well.
