Credit to Miami Mike who first mentioned this news in the "What Are You Doing?" topic on 1-12-19. But I just found out today and thought it deserved it's own topic. MusicRadar has the story on their website. https://www.musicradar.com/news/fender-acquires-bigsby

I find that kind of strange, since other than maybe a Telecaster, what Fender guitar would even use a Bigsby in the first place? Perhaps, they have something else planned.

The entire Gretsch lineup... don't forget who owns Gretsch.
Makes sense that Fender would acquire the source of parts for their production line.
It also gives them a competitive edge over Gibson models that use the Bigsby.

Thanks for posting, CoronadoII (and Mike). Bigsby has a nice piece of history, and it’s great that it will be added to Fender’s history, :D

Oh yeah, I forgot about that they owned Gretsch. That would make sense.

I was going to mention it being on the Gibsons, didn't have any idea Fender owned Gretsch.

seems like it would be a good acquisition then for a few reasons

Bigsby tails are usually on Gibson, Gretsch, etc.

I guess time will tell what Fender's intention is.
They are in bed with Gretsch and may possibly own them outright.
That is not what we were told when Fender first became involved with Gretsch.
We were told Fender was only supplying supervision and management and mostly in a consultation capacity in order to help keep the company from going off the rails.
Doesn't really matter what the arrangement is.
They share a bed with Gretsch and then they buy a Gretsch holding.
At first it seems like a confusing situation but Fender's history may possibly shed some light.
Fender is notorious for buying a company so they own the rights to the patents and the intellectual property for the sole reason of shutting that company down forever.
They've done it before.
They bought SWR, took all that was good, incorporated that into their own lines and then shut the brand down.
They bought Tacoma guitars and shut them down.
I won't list them all.
Those are just the two that I was most disappointed about.
I'm not going to go out on a limb and make an actual prediction that this is what they plan to do.
I'm just saying it smells a little funny to me.
Corporations can be hard to read and Fender has always been one of the more confusing to try to read.

I guess time will tell what their intention is.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I remember years ago, there was a discussion about that when that happened with Genz Benz. At least Guild got out of that situation unscathed, since Cordoba bought them from Fender.

I thought Fender had Hamer for awhile but now they belong to KMC.
