I decided to start New Years off right by going to Guitar Center in Warwick, R.I. and buying this beauty which is a Martin X1-DE Electric/Acoustic. It's part of their X series and is not on their website which leads me to believe that it's a GC and affiliates exclusive . It has a solid spruce top, HPL back & sides and a Fishman pickup. They are advertising this at $599.00 but seeing that Musicians Friend has the same guitar for only $459.00. I was able to get them to match that price. Growing up, I always wanted a Martin but could never afford one until now thanks to the X Series. This was perfectly set up with no issues and all I had to do was to change the stock strings, that's all. Since I got it , I have not touched my other guitars and am now considering selling them so that I can get another Martin to add to my arsenal. Christ , I'm hooked.

Nice.
Can't say "no" to any Martin or Taylor!

That’s a great grab, jeffo46. Any guitar that gives you mojo is a good thing. So is a good price, and a Martin to boot. Gotta love that, Enjoy adding to the history of that fine instrument. :D

Nice guitar, Jeffo -- That is one of the MIM Martins, I believe. Does anyone know when Martin starting making acoustics south of the border? Maybe same time as Fender?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Taylor does the same with their 100 and 200 series... they are still excellent instruments and a good value with the 200 series getting into 4-digits.

Not sure when Martin began producing Martin-badged guitars outside of the US, but they produced the Sigma brand for almost 40 years (I have a Sigma 12 string). It's possible that Mexican production began when they eliminated the Sigma line in 2007?
Like Fender, they do own their own factory in Mexico.

Here in the rich North country, you can add another $300 bucks to the Taylor 100 series with my 114ce for example. That'll also give a 4-digits number before taxes. I guess that's how much they charge for a truck from Mexico to Canada; but, at least you still get a gig bag. :P I wonder if Martin charges less for their truck delivery? They won't if, like my buddy's semi driver son, they have to stop for a truckload of garlic in Gilroy, California.

As for Martin's factory in Navajoa, Mexico it opened in 1989 making strings, ukuleles, the backpacker, cases, and some Mexican X series (which is reported to have begun somewhere around 2003 or thereabouts; although, not certain AFAIK). In any case (pun intended), Martin, with two decades less two centuries of experience, has been making guitars in Mexico for well over a decade. I think they must know how to do it by now.

Someone is still making Sigma guitars. I don't know if Martin still has anything to do with the name, though. https://www.sigma-guitars.com/index.php?id=220

Thanks for the responses everyone. This is without a doubt, the best Acoustic I've ever owned in my 47 years of playing . I've thought about it and I am going to be selling my other acoustics so that I can get another Martin that is on Musician's Friends site which is a exclusive to them. It's a all wood model made here in the USA which is going for only $899.99. It's all Acoustic / no electronics which has a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides. When I get that one, I'll post it on here as well.

That sounds like a good idea, especially if you're not using the other ones.

The name was sold in 2011, and the new company does not have the rights to sell in the US.
