I traded in my Fender MiM Strat for a Jackson Dinky with an EMG 81/85 combo and a Floyd Rose. Got it used [used price was $425!], and its a great guitar. However, I'm having trouble with the FR bridge, when I use it, even though the locking nuts are on tight, it still sorta falls out of tune. I've re-arranged the springs (they were all out of whack), and then blocked it, at least until I can figure it out...

So does anybody have any advice for the bridge? Should I keep it blocked? Or is there anything I can adjust to keep it from going out of tune?

Which strings are going out of tune? same one(s) or random?
How old is this used guitar?

My first thought is that the problem could be in the nut.
Image
Over time strings can wear a "rutt" or "groove" in the slot that guides the string through the nut.
When this happens, the screws & braces on the locking nut cannot clamp down on the string.
(Think of it like someone hiding in a ditch from the high winds produced by a storm.)
The string is in the rutt so the clamp down on the string is partial or on the high E, maybe not at all.
Thus the string will slip a little and go out of tune.

If that is the problem u need a new nut.

It was all of the strings...but now that I've blocked off the bridge I haven't had tuning problems at all.

Although if I release the locking braces it goes slightly out of tune and it becomes a nightmare to re-tune afterward.

Ok then this could be the knife edge...
Do u know what I am referring to?
Aprox how old is this guitar?

If u dive the wammy & then return to "zero" but the whole guitar is out.
It means your guitar is not returning to true zero.

I wish I could tell you, it looks very new, but probably because I gave it a spit shine when I got home. I also just read up on the knife's edge, I'll be checking it later today to see if it has any damage to it. Thanks. :)
