To be honest , I don't like either. The Robot guitar seems dumb and pointless to me, if a guitarist is too lazy to tune their own guitar, they should focus on fixing that, not saving thousands for a Robot guitar. The VG is actually pretty nifty, but I personally wouldn't own one.

Posting this on a Fender forum, I'm sure the answers will be highly varied.

Neither for me. Call me old fashioned...I'll just take a Standard Strat or a Les Paul over those. The VG seems kinda cool but I think the Gibson Robot is plain silly. I mean, do you really need a guitar that tunes itself? Not me!

I haven't seen a VG Strat yet and I'm a Tele player.
But, I have heard a lot of reports from Gibson dealers that are sending a great deal of the robots back because the mechanized tuning gears have been stripped upon arrival.
I guess that means a neither.

Why trust a robot to do your dirty work? IMO, I just kinda prefer the human touch. :D

They're very different guitars... the Gibson Robot physically re-tunes your guitar (and sets intonation, etc.)... if you perform and change tunings often, it could save you a bit of time.

The VG Strat modifies the sound with effects, not physically. I've played one, and it was nice. I wouldn't buy it, but if you're a performer who changes tunings or instruments often, it could save you a lot of trouble - especially if you travel, and in a tiny car like several musicians I know.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't buy either. I'd take a VG if I won one. The Robot makes the least sense to me.

i own a robot i love it . i really like les pauls . im not to lazy to tune my own guitar because the other 9 guitars i own (mostly fenders i still tune myself ) i have restrung it and the function works perfect its fun to experiment with the alternate tunings and the sound is les paul standard ,not a simulation . i was in on the first run and got mine for just over 2 g in one day the price doubled and now the new ones go for about 4.5 g so all in all its a great guitar and great investment .

I would prefer a VG over a Robot.

+1 So I didn't vote.
But, if there were only 2 guitars in the world & I wasn't able to say niether (like in the vote options lol).
I would probably choose the VG strat

I'd take VG over the Robot. I'd rather have the effects, and I can tune a guitar on my own, in a hot second.

Now if I had to pay for it.......then neither.

Yes, I would go for a VG over Robot any day. But the Robot LP's and SG's have that cool purple color.
