Oh yeah, I remember he had a Lakland signature bass. I guess it was based off his original Jazz that he had.

It's still into production, available in 4 and 5-string versions, fretted and fretless.

Yeah, unfortunately the last couple of years have been rough about losing a lot of great musicians and other performers, especially ones that got started or known in the 60's. :(
