Decided to start playing bass, so for my birthday this year I grabbed an awesome cheap one.

1971 Univox Badazz with jazz pickups swapped in. The pickups aren't made for the bass, but they sound fantastic. The neck is comfortable and the price didn't break the bank. The string spacing is almost dead on, other than the fact that they aren't perfectly centered, which is a pretty easy fix. I'm probably gonna cut rings to fit the pickups using the original screw holes from whole pickguards. The pickup cavities aren't hacked up either, so if I can get the chance to revert to original, I can very easily.

The bass sounds like a jazz, but with a bit more tinny of a sound and a little more flexibility with the additional knob and 3 way switch. The neck is nice and thin and the short scale is great to the hand. Holds tune very well. I'm very pleased for $299 because it met all of my requirements in buying a bass.

I can't wait to get a better at it.

Very cool find. 8) Congratulations with this. I've been all about playing short scale basses since I got a hollow body violin bass last year, then sold a Squier Precision I had to get an Ibanez Talman short scale bass. If you're used to playing a guitar, it's also a lot easier to transition to, as well. 8)

That’s a looker, James. Nice find. Can’t complain about the price either, huh? Have good times with the new addition to your collection.

I don't think she minds that. We've been together long enough for things like that to not matter lol

With a price like that, I think the owner had no idea what they had. I love owners like that.

It was actually from a Music Store in Beltsville MD called Atomic Music. Fantastic deals far and wide within the walls. They had a nice 69 Mustang bass for $999 in orange. 78 Fender Bronco in red for $899, 1980 Fender Lead II in Antigua for $899.

Loads of vintage MIJ stuff, Marshall Amps, lots of obscure stuff too.

I remember you mentioned them before. I've looked at their website. They have some cool stuff listed for sale. 8)
