If you could nominate a player (living or dead) for a signature model, who would it be? I would like to nominate
p-bass player Melissa Auf Der Maur (Hole,Smashing Pumpkins, solo).

Good enough to have hung with SRV and great enough to have a signature model IMHO because he can play it all, and does. Rock, Blues, and Jazz, and it’s not about what he plays (except for the Strat) it’s about how he plays. 8)
Here’s Colin James:

I have to admit I barely knew he existed, but that shall certainly be rectified now! Good God he’s brilliant!

Glad you liked Colin James, Eljay. He’s pretty consistent too. I’ll admit that, although I knew of him, I was late to pay attention to Colin. That was definitely rectified quickly.

They did Dave Murray and Jim Root... May as well do Matthias Jabs from the Scorpions.
He was perhaps better known for pairing an Explorer with Rudolph's Flying-V, but he also played a black Strat with a single humbucker.

How about a Jimmy Reed signature model.

Bring back the Phil Lynott precision basses. Black with mirror pick-guard, slab body, maple neck and rosewood neck models. Phil used badass bridges but the new heavier Fender bridge should work just fine.

I believe they have done a "custom shop tribute" but as far as I know, there is no Buddy Holly model strat, and that is a shame.

Wow, the Colin James video sounds amazing.

I would agree to a Buddy Holly sig model.

Lolly Vegas of Redbone played a hybrid Telecaster with a Stratocaster neck. Two humbuckers. This is back in the early 1970's.

I don't know if anyone put Humblers on Teles before that. He was a talented player with a lengthy music history.

Lolly is gone now. I don't know who has his guitar. Perhaps his brother Pat.

It would make an interesting tribute guitar.

I've got one more from the same era as Buddy Holly. How about a Ritchie Valens model? I don't think they'll ever make it but a guy can dream.

+1 for the Buddy Holly/Ritchie Valens suggestions.

Well, I nominated Colin James and I’ll stand by him, but since my Strat to the left hangs in my family/recording room by a framed Buddy Holly “Rave On” 78rpm a reasonably affordable Holly signature Strat would be cool.

I would have thought Buddy already had a signature axe other than the Custom Shop’s. It is reported that Holly, Big Bopper, and Valens were presented new Strats (likely the same with 3 TSB and likely with new ‘58/‘59 rosewood fretboards since, as the story goes, Leo disliked seeing Holly's worn maple fretboard on a recent Sullivan show) for the 24 day Winter Dance Party tour that gave us that tragic day.

My guess a signature Stratocaster here would graphically need to pay homage rather than just being a stock vintage repro which would miss the mark, IMHO. Perhaps, graphic homage to the big three and that historical sad day would be a fitting presentation.

Here’s the limited earlier vintage option if one should become available.

David Gilmour has a signature model based on his "Black Strat". He's a nominee for two new signature axes: his "Red Strat" with EMGs and the "Workingmate" Esquire.
