Thanks, for posting this, Glenn. I was a fan of the Packers back then, and you are so right, the name Taylor was spoken of a lot. First of Lombardi’s players into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame. Not only a great player, but a team player par excellence.

Found this great interview for those who enjoy football (Packers fan or not). A great look at yesterday’s and today’s game from one of the top players ever, Jim Taylor.

*Note: Jim Taylor was a survivor from a stroke.

Thanks, JT for entertaining a kid from Canada.

Thanks for the post.

I was unaware he had passed. While living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana I had a chance to get to know him personally. Soon after I was married my wife became very ill. We were in a tough spot and for financial reasons had to take an apartment just off the LSU campus on West Parker Blvd. that was less expensive than we had been living in. Well Mr. Taylor owned our apartment complex and I would see him frequently as he did a lot of his own maintenance.

One day my wife and I were watching TV and he knocked on the door and asked if he could come in and re-caulk the apartment windows. I said that was just fine. So there we sat watching TV while he caulked windows. All of the sudden it struck me. "Here I am watching TV and a Hall of Fame Green Bay player is caulking my windows, there are people who would pay money just to meet this guy" But Jim was never arrogant or pretentious just a regular guy. You would never know his background just from meeting him.

We lived in those apartments for 4 years. Our lives were difficult as a young married couple and my wife had Chronic Leukemia that eventually took her life. Jim knew our plight and never raised our rent in that whole 4 year term. is wife was a Airline stewardess and real class act too. We would see her from time to time, A real Lady!

Tanks all of you for your kind words.

I have been watching some video of J.T. on YouTube. Watching him interviewed from the early days and watching him run for the Packers. Knowing someone who is a celebrity and seeing them on stage is a funny thing. Breaking it down, well they are just human, but with a particular talent. Just think of the kids that grew up around any of the Beatles or Stones etc. "Oh yes I know him when.....back in school"
