Hey guys. I'm looking for some info here and where else but here can I find it, right ? Anyway, a couple of days ago I was at Guitar Center and they had the last Fender FA-125 Acoustic in stock. I had been intrigued by this model due to the shape of the wider headstock and also after trying it out, I just could not believe how great it sounded and also the fact that it was going for only $149.99. I know it's only a laminate but I fell in love with it and bought it. When I got home, I decided to do some research on here and found out it's been discontinued by Fender . I know it's not that old only having been introduced just late last year, so I'm just wondering why Fender decided to stop production on it.

I don't think even the acoustic section could help; Fender very seldom publishes the reasons behind product changes. (Sometimes - when it's a question of a historic change and 'landmark' guitar model - some info pops up, sometimes years afterwards. But with an economy priced, contract built acoustic that just does not happen.)

But they do have the new FA125CE Dreadnought on the menu, so the series continues.
So, forget about the laminate (actually & IMHO, on this price class it may be the better choice) and play the heck out of your guitar.

Perhaps the guitar was a limited production model for Black Friday sales. This type of thing happens a lot with consumer electronics.

https://www.nbcnews.com/business/consumer/black-friday-brief-derivative-tvs-smoking-deal-or-sham-n464296

To quote the article: "These limited edition models are called “derivative” products. Sometimes the manufacturer simply gives an existing product a new model number. In other cases, they make changes to the current model in order to hit a lower price point...“It’s a strategy devised by manufactures in conjunction with retailers that makes it harder for shoppers to do direct price comparisons because you’re not going to see that exact same model anywhere else,” explained Jim Willcox, senior electronics editor at Consumer Reports. “It also helps retailers as they’ve stepped-up their price-matching guarantees. Almost all of these price-match offers are limited to the exact same model. If you can’t compare that exact same model, they don’t have to match the price.

I've bought a couple of these types of "derivative' items around the Holidays (a digital audio recorder and a Roku box, in particular), that worked well and were great values. I have no idea whether your guitar was one of these types of items but, given the time of year the model was introduced, I wouldn't be stunned. In any case, it appears you got a nice sounding instrument at a nice price, so win-win!

That could be true, but I don't think even the best forum experts can answer the question.

It was (still is on some webshops) sold as a regular model, not any Limited/Special/Dealer Select/Anniversary (etc.) item.

Guitar Center still lists the item as well, so I'm not really sure. Most of the "derivative" Black Friday products referenced in the article would not be marketed as limited edition models or anything like that, though.
