This is a slow moving storm with huge amounts of rain. I saw on the news that there are lots of people who have not left the evacuation areas. Sending prayers and good vibes to all those affected.

I'm particularly worried about a radioactive emergency alert much worse than the Fukushima disaster of 2011 since the Carolinas' power plants are seriously threatened by the hurricane. Pray God this nightmare scenario would never happen.
It’s always a tossup to find legitimate even handed information and truth amongst alarmists, scientists, industry, government, concerned citizens, and others, especially from those with their hands getting greased by money. History shows them all to have been right and wrong at times.

I did find this article about Hurricane Florence and the nuclear power station(s) from a well respected periodical.

I think it gives a fine explanation of the concern you have chromeface.

I wouldn’t stay up too late just to see a related report from visual media on the preventions taken or the risks involved, however. Unless I’ve missed it, the report hasn’t made the lineup desk. Perhaps, the missing coverage is planned to be that way. Perhaps, it is to lessen the fear factor or, perhaps, it’s politics or it may simply be a lack of access for a variety of good and/or bad reasons.

I doubt if the nuclear power plant and how it was affected will even be a follow up report after the storm.

Whatever the case, it all makes for a good story missed.

I wonder if the plant was in Atlanta’s, New York’s, or Los Angeles’ backyard if it would gather more media interest? Hmmm.

The Fukushima disaster of 2011 has similarities; however, earthquakes, construction, generator and pumping changes, mismanagement, historical falsified records, economics, and a slew of different problems preceded their situation. Also, a lot has been learned from it.

This looks to be a long storm so maybe the nuclear issues will be addressed, documented, and I know more lessons will be learned accordingly.

Anyhow, kudos to Wired for the well done article as it relates to Hurricane Florence.

We have a shutdown CANDU reactor not far from here. I and a crew spent a day shooting part of a documentary by the reactor when it was active. The research scientists clipped an ID on us that would glow and alert us to leakage. At the end of day we were scanned, told that our radioactive level was typical (whatever that meant), and turned our cards in to a reassuring, “We’ll have it for a week, and if there’s any concern we’ll call you”. Needless to say it was quite the week, and I’m still waiting for the call. :D

It's only moving 3 mph. I'm afraid this is going to stay bad for a while.

The hurricane has already killed 5 persons in North Carolina.

The Departement of Defense plans to provide aid by sending guard troops and rescue helicopters in the affected areas.
