Found this warning notice in the products page:

https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/

Should all of us be concerned about possible health problems?

Only if you live in California.

Really, it's California that causes cancer and birth defects, but the legislature hasn't figured it out so they blame anything that is sold in CA.
It's going to get worse... recent laws have tightened up requiring the warnings to be even MORE specific. It's almost getting to the point that to sell a product in California, a company will be required to provide an MSDS.

California Prop65 was written by attorneys, not scientists.
ANY amount of chemical known to cause cancer or birth defects used in manufacture or processing triggers the warning, whether the chemicals are present in hazardous amounts or not, and even if the final product does not pose a hazard, but the questionable materials were used in the production process.

For guitars, the VOCs in the paint trigger the warning, as well as the chemicals used in the chrome plating processes.

Thanks!

I believe other California-based guitar makers such as Ernie Ball, Suhr and Tyler are also concerned by the notice.

Personally I didn't see the P65 warning in their websites.

The day I saw an MSDS for water (yeah, H2O......the stuff that comes out of the tap, that we drink, bathe, and irrigate with and which covers 7/10ths of this planet) posted in our military motor pool, I realized WE ARE DOOMED.

The fruitcakes have won.

Yes, they have won and we are doomed. Sherwin-Williams has been fined for running an add for lead based paint a hundred years ago. It didn't matter that they stopped making lead based paint years before it was banned.

While I believe some warnings are logical and beneficial, these things have run amuck. The same thing can be said about warnings that should be addressed and are circumvented by loopholes. Natural flavourings, country origin, misleading names to conceal the true identity (example: species rather than location and vice versa), and so on and so on.

We in Canada are fortunate to have warning stickers in two or more languages plastered or painted on ill thought out spots of our products. For some reason it’s perfectly okay to practice this art work on our barbecues and on our expensive automobile. Thankfully, it doesn’t get stuck to our guitars. We spend little time and effort asking about every day necessities and how they are promoted as being perfectly okay. That goes for toilet paper too.

Do you read the ingredient labels at your favourite takeout or restaurant? Would it matter if chemicals have been reported to harvest marketed freshwater seafood? Do you know about the paint at your workplace? A painter once told me that a certain hospital facility had specifics right down to the brand for that kind of thing.

Arjay is right about the water. I was telling someone the other day that as a kid I would brown bag it to a favourite fishing hole and drink amongst the water beetles in the stream. Today I would never do that, and the tap at home doesn’t give me much faith either. Oh, and that bottled water? It might come from city taps even if it carries a big name. Still, it may or may not be the best or only choice.
Should we worry? Might as well suck it up and suck in that stuff the government is legalizing and soon to promote, or we’ll all live in a chimney with scrubbers. IMHO yada yada.

Enjoy your shrimp with your favourite beverage on the rocks in the lead laced candle light. What’s for dessert? Will that be coffee and cream with your dessert?

Aw . . . Fuggedaboutit. Enjoy.

As far as the original topic goes, the pundits and the wonks may be on to something concerning Fender products and genital abnormalities......when I'm onstage with a Strat plugged into my '64 Vibroverb, my balls feel HUGE!

Dang! I’ve been missing out. I’ve gotta get me a ‘64 Vibroverb if I can find one. No wonder the store doesn’t have any.
Thanks, for the tip, Arjay.

Do realize that the "Clay Dots" on classic Fenders were made from Asbestos floor tiles and I believe that the Fenders with Nitrocellulose Lacquer are finished in Mexico due to US environmental laws.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

That is often the perception when 2 larger objects are located right next to one significantly smaller object.

LMFAO,
I think the exodus from California is driving real estate prices up in Arizona, which makes me happy.

Maybe Fender should consider moving the rest of the operation from California, especially The Custom Shop.

Between California's brutal Franchise Tax Board and their onerous Air Resources Board in addition to the federal government's obnoxious NLRB and OSHA plus AFL-CIO meddling, I'll bet that Fender's already considering contingency plans.

Thank you for posting chromeface. I wouldn't worry, Fender guitars can help what might need help and will do no harm.

The whole beginning of Ensenada production was due to the EPA regulations with the painting processes in Corona, being under the SCAQMD.
Same reason Douglas painted nearly 50% of their aircraft at Tracor in Santa Barbara rather than Long Beach.
