I have recently purchased a Fender Champion 100 amp. For the money I guess the amp is alright, just not exactly what I expected. My question is this: I am experiencing some buzzing when I plug directly from my guitar straight into the amp. When I turn the volume down on the guitar, the buzzing obviously decreases. I had the guitar pickups rewired to ensure that there would be no grounding issues. I have tried different cables to make sure that the cable wasn't the issue. I have also purchased a cable tester and tested each and every cable I have, including self-made patch cables through my pedal board. Even without running through the pedal board, there is still a buzz. Not a crazy amount, but enough to get on my nerves. I play a Michael Kelly Patriot guitar, with Rockfield Humbuckers. The tone knob splits the bridge pickup, but the neck is full humbucker. Anyone have any suggestions?

If the amp alone ( nothing plug in it ) do not buzz.
The issue it is what you plug on it.

Try your guitar alone , non pedal board; buzz or not
Buzz ; it is your guitar or some noise in your room ; put cell phone, PC , neon light , halogen light , electrical motor to OFF.

Guitar pickup rewiried ...if it is not a by a pro, it may not be a good job.

I just want to add that having a humbucker pickup is not a guarantee of no buzzing. It's just less of a problem with humbuckers in general. The Champion 100 isn't a particularly heavy amp. Can you bring it to a friends house or somewhere else to rule out house wiring problems?

Could be RFI (radio frequency interference) A strong TV signal can be rectified and demodulated by some electronic components or a bad solder joint.

Cure: This is a subject in itself but for a quick fix, install ferrite beads and .001 microfarad capacitors on mic inputs. Install RFI chokes on guitar cords or mic cables. Check solder joints.

For sure. A lot of just-bought amp issues is due to cold or broken solder points.

Good luck!

yeah I hear it's a really easy task to re-solder a modern solid state amp. There are no safety issue involved either, just crack it open like an egg and have at it!

This will void warranty . Easy to solder but not easy to have access to solder .....
You have to remove the complete circuit board with pots,.....
These pictures are not from Champion 100, but look the same. Few hundred solder.

Not to mention the risk of shocking yourself into the afterlife. My comments were sarcastic. The thread starts with "I just bought". Warranty repair or replacement all the way.

First off, welcome to the Forum, mrdonnell24.

I know what a PITA hum can be because I have some powered speakers that have been plagued with intermittent hum for 2 decades often caused by poor supply wiring; but, it is so seldom and hard to solve aside from tossing them, and I like them as is accordingly (until the next ones)
For brevity and safety I’ll add this article. The choice of gear and usage as mentioned in the article may not apply, but there are some good mentions here to help all the same.

Basically, a simple fix may be a hum eliminator. The boxes come in a variety and are commonly found.

Another approach is to use shielding for the body and/or scratch plate. The key here is to not have anything that shouldn’t be shielded touching your shielding (such as switches and pots or wiring). There are different camps on whether or not and how to shield, and some claim tone loss while others don’t. My Strat is fully shielded as designed from Fender, no humbuckers but instead I have noiseless pups. The axe is totally noiseless. :D

Here are some shielding options as discussed.

Most often the ground or interference in the surroundings as noted earlier in the posts is the culprit; but, if you can reduce or eliminate it that is a good thing. Have you checked your input jack for good contact? Likely you have.

I can’t say any of this will fix your issue, and do so at your own risk (stay safe). Hopefully, the answer is in this thread here in the Forum.

Best of luck, and let us know how things work out.

This is great. Thank you all for your advice. I actually ended up redoing pretty much my entire rig. I wasn't happy with the Champion 100, due to several different reasons excluding the noise, and I had been looking at other gear for a little while anyway. Therefore, the Champion is gone and I replaced the pickups in my guitar and the noise has decreased significantly!

Glad you made some positive change that helps, mrdonnell24.

Thanks, for keeping us posted. Any improvement (or added problem) that helps others for future consideration is welcomed. That’s how it works here.
