Thanks in advance.
I have purchased American original 70’s jazz bass in Amazon and just received the guitar last Thursday Aug-23-2018, here in my location (Qatar). I just want to inform to you about my concern. The guitar features are all perfectly working. However, I noticed there were 3 like glass cracks located on head stock tuning knobs of the guitar. The cracks are not on the wood, it's on the polyurethane finish only, I tried to touch and feel it and there was no sharpie feels on it, actually the issue is no bad effect in the guitar performance, I don't know how/why/where the guitar got these, as per also in my observation all cracks root has beginning from screw/knob holes (as photos attached). Can you please help me what the possible or the root cause of this issue or can Fender address this minor issue?

Your image didn't show up.

To post a photo on this forum your image (photo), needs to be accessible on the internet at a location that is known to you for example this location of one of my photos:

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DL4090GX4AYWv8b.jpg

It's probably a good idea to have this forum and your new message open in one browser window and locate your image in another browser window or tab.

When you find your image copy the location from the address line in your browser (mark the text and select it for copying).

In your tab or window where your new forum message is being composed click on the "Img" box above the message and in the message body you will see two [Img] tags, paste your image location/URL between those two tags.

When you Preview or Submit your new message your image should appear.

I'll post an image below, you could click on the quote button in this message and view the message code to see what it should look like when you are posting an image:

With out a photo, sounds like finish checking, (small cracks in the finish) and is not uncommon in a guitar approaching 50 years old. if they are where the machine heads are, it's possible they could have been caused by over tightening the hardware at some point.

Either way your best option is to just leave it be as fixing would probably require a refinish and you don't really want to do that.

If it's what I think it is, it's 100% cosmetic, and wont effect anything.

And also, I'd like to note that some people would pay EXTRA for that kind of vintage aging / relicing !

Just play it,, it'll probably go for another 50.

Yeah it sounds like finish checking. It only happens to poly. I can confirm this is highly desireable by people who like instruments that show natural age. I wouldn't change a thing. Congrats on your purchase.

Ok I had a minute and looked at your link. Here is the pic so everyone can see. So you mean those very straight lines in the center of the picture? That doesn’t look like finish checking to me. It looks like it was scraped with something (just a guess).

This is finish checking on a headstock (for comparison)

Just a guess. My thinking is the way it runs it could be a slip of the string upon loading or removal causing the scoring. Notice the beginning and end of the scratch. Pretty difficult to do the damage with the strings on it. On the other hand it is pretty straight so while it is possible it may be unlikely.

Think of it this way. There’s a story untold and that’s called character. I had my new American Strat tumble forward on a crappy stand (because of a carpet) hitting the head on a rack. A small cosmetic ding that you’d have to look for. It seemed huge to me at first. It bothered me in the beginning, but I’m good with it now. I’m glad I kept it. You may find the same Jbinay. :D

Relicing won't affect playability either.

you could try to buff it out yourself. IT may reduce it. Look for a good scratch remover for poly..

Google around a bit, there's lots of products out there.

wait .... is this a brand new instrument? Is this this $2000 bass? LINK

If it is, send it back for a pristine replacement. That is not a cheap instrument and it's supposed to be new. Contact the seller through Amazon and request an RMA (return merchandise authorization). Hurry before you pass some time limit.
