He played at the Cavern Club live!

With so many bad news these past few years, it's so good to see this. Makes me think how little of the good stuff we've got left from the old days.

True it's been a brutal year for artists but we can all be thankful they left behind a magnificent musical legacy which transcends their passing.

Great pictures, Sergio. Great timing too as I’m chillin’ with Boppers and Rockers streaming on the speakers.

If that Cavern Club photo had been taken in 1965 you might’ve seen an 18 year old teenager from Canada in the audience. Me. :P
Crazy good times, as you point out, Sergio, and I had a blast.

There are and will be good times today. I’m certain of that. The 60s were groovy though, and there were less it’s all about me attitudes. It truly was a mind blowing mellow experience that rocked. More like about us (me thinks).

Thanks, for the post, Sergio. Very cool. :D

In ‘65 I and a mate in uniforms hitched a ride going into Liverpool late at night. My friend suggested taking the trip north from Portsmouth. A kind gentleman driving a pretty nice car picked us up on the Motorway on the outskirts of Liverpool. At his suggestion, being that it was late to be hunting for a suitable hotel and whatnot, he took us to a Bed and Breakfast where he introduced us to a very nice old lady who owned the place. After his leave she showed us a framed photograph (This was not some promotional picture. It was more like a family photo) of some kid who was obviously Paul McCartney. She then asked us if we Canucks knew him. We just agreed with her, and proceeded to bed after a long day. We didn’t think much of this until:

At breakfast she told us that she was Paul’s grandmother? She acted more like a nice proud old gramma than to be a fan. Honestly, we can’t say for sure. Doubt is the first natural reaction to have. My research shows it to be very unlikely. I believe Paul’s natural grandmothers had passed before this. She could have been added or adopted to the family. But, ya never know. At least I probably won’t. Makes for a great story all the same.

Glad you liked it, FSB, I truly am!

You know, though a bit late born, I am a Dead Head in the 2010s, you might know how hard that is. I just can't really enjoy anything "modern" the way I love the old, classic stuff. At least regarding music and art.

Things like this, I mean seeing Paul McCartney playing live at a small venue like the Cavern is just... uhm... incredibly pleasant to me. I have no words.

Good to share! :D

Unfortunately, the only Paul I saw in Liverpool was on that B&B dining room table. Sorry, for the confusion.

I was at the original Cavern Club back then though. So it wasn’t my fault. It was Paul that didn’t show up. I coulda asked him about his gramma. For someone from this side of the pond, that club was quite the treat.

I think it’s great that you and others younger than me have nostalgic appreciation for the rock you choose. My generation didn’t like all, but definitely some or a lot, of our parents’ and grandparents’ music, and liking it or not, there are still classical music lovers of old and even ancient music, so I wouldn’t fret about being a Dead Head. You have a lot of friends in that camp. We have a satellite Grateful Dead radio station 24/7. Hope that makes you feel better. I get what you mean though.

Not a lot of Surf music around here, even though there is world wide popularity, new bands, and new material. Skateboards and snowboarding help, but other genres hit that crowd too. That just encourages me to make my own, but I'm always willing to play and record out of the box with a new twist or slip into the original vibe. That doesn’t lock me into any genre, however. I don’t have a band to support, not that I wouldn’t, but the stage rightfully belongs to others, and I know how tough that can be at times. For some - not so much.

Modern music is both a challenge and study for me, both with playing and vocal, as well as for original song writing. I take what I like, and totally ignore what I don’t. I think everyone deserves a chance, but not necessarily a free pass. I don’t get one, why should they? Because someone says so? Really? I may be old, but I’m still fermenting. I’m like a dormant volcano waiting for the right moment to release what I have inside and it’s building up from old and new. :P Unfortunately, with my time, a new music genre will probably take over before I get there.
Dead Head? Good on ya, Sergio. They said Disco was dead. Follow your bliss. :D

Thanks, bro’. It’s not a story I tell often for the naysayers out there; but, I thought it might fit for Sergio’s excellent post.

Today is definitely a stress filled world on a tilt, and we who have been there before get it.

The Cold War, Vietnam, riots in the streets, and more did their share of stress back in the 60s. But, then there was the other side of it to take away the troubled world, and to ease the pain with fashion, music, peace, love, and a lot more.

In short, we made it through the turmoil, and with optimism, the right attitude, and some smarts from lessons learned, we can do it again, and I have no doubt the music and the love will be there.

Sadly, 10 Matthew Street, Liverpool no longer exists. But, a new Cavern Club does. :D
