IMHO,

I picked up my first guitar at a tag sale at age 8, and have not stopped playing since.
Back then, I didn't have video games growing up. Sure there was pong, but it was too dam expensive. I listened to the radio, and played tapes that I bought from paper route money.
If I had a child, I would encourage them try the “real thing”. GH looks like a glorified game of Simon. If you are going to dedicate that much time to learn the game, you can easily take that time to learn a G chord. Besides you can get a decent starter guitar kit for less than what it takes to buy GH.
I don’t mean to offend anyone, forgive me, I am a child of the 70’s;)

Guitar Hero got me into playing the real thing. I don't personally want to go back. But GH never taught me much, if anything at all.

Just one thing to be said- the real thing is always better than the cheap imitation.

Guitar Hero doesn't do anything for playing the real thing. Fact.
It just has a lot of good music (cause most of the songs are old tunes).
I tried the game - it bored me.

I played Guitar Hero a lot and finally realized that there were so many songs that would never be available for it. So I've taken up the real guitar and now don't really find Guitar Hero as much fun anymore.

Same with me

But GH got me interested in classic rock, so that's one thing

Before I got it about 3 years ago, I was listening to rap and mainstream...

Now I can't stand rap

I'm still waiting for the release of Guitar Rising - basically Guitar Hero but played with a real guitar instead of push button plastic....

Playing guitar is like any other complex activity I engage in: The more I learn the less I know.

My friend was playing the little Rockband Drumset once, I had my Strat next to me plugged in. He decided to play "The Hand That Feeds" along with him, and the entire time he complained I was either late or too fast. My other friend said I wasn't, and I didn't feel as though I was. I have a picky friend. :?
