I was wondering if someone out there could help me? I have a Deluxe Reverb amp 2, and i makes a strange humming sound i'm not sure if the hum is from my strats pick-ups or if the amp is just messed up? Maybe the gain is really messed up??

Most amps will hum as you turn them up louder and louder. Single coil pickups will often give off a hum in positions 1,3,5 also. Without hearing the hum it is hard to know if you are getting more hum than normal.

Humming is 200% normal. Unless maybe if you have active pickups there is usually a lot less hum. Otherwise, there isn't anything to worry about.

(Take note 90% of passive pickups (ones that don't require batteries) WILL buzz).

Simply unplugging your guitar should tell you whether its the pickups. Single coil picups are going to hum, its a fact of life. Unless you have some sort of noise cancelling pedal or the like, you're going to have that 60 cycle, (or a harmonic of...), hum.

Also think about noise in your power lines. I recently had a hum, that ended up being from a CFL light bulb (florescent), plugged into the same circuit as my amp.

ya, (a bit off topic) I set my cell phone on my amp once, and I got a text, which caused my amp to have tons of noise come out (just adding on to the pevious post)

Electro-Harmonix makes the Hum-Debugger which does a lot to silence single coil pickups. Worth every penny.

It be a good friend.

The big sodium-vapour streetlamp nearby makes sincere efforts to communicate with guitar pickups. Not in a good way. You might have something 'equal' in your world.
