The one and only issue to me is the potential impact to our current Fender authorized dealers - the ones who have been loyal to us and to whom we are loyal.
If this is going to hurt them, then I am against it. Otherwise, if someone wants to shop for a guitar at Best Buy - more power to them...

 WTF? What is the point of buying this a BestBuy? Kids are going to beg their parents to buy then a Squire or something, and they are going to get it and then forget about it. Kids now a days just want to look cool with their tight jeens and those "hommy" base-ball caps. Kids don't know where to start in this world anymore... :? :(

Oh yeah, right right, just like how kids with their parents are always asking for them to buy a $1000 plasma/lcd tv. Best Buy is a destination retailer. Its not a Sam's Club or a BJ's. I personally don't see a problem. Its good competitioin for GC and Sam Ash. Good for us at least.

I have already seen Starcasters there. I think that Entry level guitars like Act One and Starcasters should be there. I would never go to Best Buy to look for my guitar, but I would for a 4-5 yr old. If they show an interest or have mad skills, their next guitar would come from a speciality shop like GC or TME.

If a kid was a kick-$@! guitarist, I would get him a good guitar for him to have for life........ (Fender, of course  )

I agree with you. All I was trying to say was if I was buying for a 4-5 year old with no skills, I would buy them something cheap to play with. If they really got into it and practiced every day (or even every other day) I would buy them a quality guitar. A young child that showed mad skills on the guitar or a teenager, I would also buy them a good quality guitar from a dealer. I would just hate it if I bought someone $300+ priced guitar and it sat in a corner or in a closet not being used or even worse, being used as a sledge hammer because they saw someone else do it.

OK I went to Best Buy and was suprised. I was expecting Starcasters or Squires. I found Fenders, all makes and models. There were Gibsons and Washburns there as well.

The only downside was there were not "deals". They were being sold at regular prices. Also no one came to talk to me. I am used to someone at least coming up and saying hello. These people were sterile.

I finally walked out when a kid (9-10) walked in with his dad (who was dressed well) and the sales guy on the floor stepped into action to kiss his butt. They may not work for commission, but crap. I'll stick with Guitar Stores for all my guitar purchaces. At leas the people there aren't FAKE. :x

Dude did you look like total a dirtbag when you went in there or what?! I'm only asking because it's strange that a sales guy wouldn't even say "hi".

Now if the prices aren't any better than in a guitar shop, I wouldn't necessarily buy at a Best Buy, unless maybe it is really close by. Convenience is a pretty big deal.

that's not strange to me))
in my local BB sales guys NEVER come to the music section ))
i believe that's because people come to BB to buy cameras, TVs or GPSs, but not guitars ))

I think you're going to find that the major brands discount their products by the same percentage to all of the big retailers. In the past, Fender has discounted guitars at about 30% of MSRP though there may be some variation on certain models. Unlikely you'll get a better deal at BB than you would at GC, Sam Ash, AMS, etc.

Finally, I went to the Best Buy in Pembroke Pines, FL. It was election day and because the schools are used for polling places down here many of the kids had the day off. I found them banging on electronic drum sets at the new BB music dept. Not a lot of square footage so not a big selection of goods. I think GC, Sam Ash and all the rest can breathe easy.

I don#t care about it. If local store, big GC or online store.
Fits the price to me in one of these stores I buy there.

Cheers :D

I went a few weeks ago. It wasn't to bad. Living in Alaska, I've never been to a Guitar Center, so when I went it was really cool.

Where I am at, the local music stores will match GC. So, I give my business to the local store. It's nice to not shop at an homegenized national conglomerate, especially when the price is the same.

Lets see, a store filled with non players...
And mostly children wanting to touch them for no reason at all.
Whats next?
The noisy amp section over next to the blenders & fridgerators!?

Maybe this will get guitars in more remote areas to check out or somthin...
But I wouldn't buy a guitar from bestbuy ever! I don't care if it said built by God on the headstock.

i went to a best buy recently...
It wasn't that bad actually... lol
&yes they had amps & an amp room.

Who cares where you get them? They're the same guitars
If you want them from BB, go there, if you want them from a music store, go there.
