As I said in the previous post I think it is a good idea on Fender's part. They can put the whole Starcaster line in and then anything else would be higher end including Squire. Best Buy just has to step up to the plate and support the musical instrument division with trained and knowlegable staff.

I've never seen a Starcaster. I might have to go to Best Buy to take a look at one.

Ok......seems like the Fender website is still taking five minutes to load every page......

yeah!
that's what i did and that's what my guitar says!

Fender Starcaster bought in Best Buy  (pics in topic of faces)

why bought it in the best buy but not in a music store?

wellllll....

First of all i know the only one music store in brooklyn... It's vary hard to find a parking near it, so, since i'm lazy as hell - i didn't go there...
another reason is that when i last came to this store my eyes were going around because of all that shiny and beautiful instruments which i wanted to buy but couldn't affort and since i knew nothing about guitars, i was just uncomfortable and felt stupid to talk to the shop guy... as my father always said - don't be afraid to ask questions, that's the only way to learn, i still was uncomfortable...
that's why i decided to go to Best Buy and buy the guitar whichever i like first... and here we go))
i think that next shopping will be in the specified musical store ))
i've learned a lot from this particular topic and will learn much from whole forum

peace!!! 8)

You know, it could be a GOOD thing.
Rather than going to a guitar shop (GC springs to mind) and having to work around the jackholes who just want to sit and noodle on guitars and amps that they have no intention of buying, you can go in check out a guitar buy it and get the heck out.

yo yo yo poorboy best buy has a 15 to 25% restocking fee, so lets say you pay $1,200.00 for a top of the line fender & you want to return it, it may cost you up to $300.00 to return it , that's $300.00 out of your pocket with nothing to show for it there poorboy

Best Buy/futureshop (same owner just running under 2 different names in Canada) like walmart are only looking for the max profit they can make on a product. They get it by forcing their suppliers to cut costs and meet their specified price points. So you get your low priced thingy from them but it is all being sourced from China or wherever they can get the lowest cost labor to make it. Quality follows.

In my early days I remember making power saws at a factory, a saw with the same look and model number, destined for trades people had ball-bearings where it needed them, The one destined for the home-tool-guy shops had sleeves instead. They looked identical but one was made with cheap components to meet the price point needed by the home guy shops. With the expectation they would probably never use it hard enough to discover the cheapened components. And those that did burn one out would just throw it out and buy another.

I don't think I would want to get my gear from a electronics dollar store where the "sales associates" probably have no clue what they are selling. Or how to properly handle and set them up. I can just see them chucking cartons of tube amps across their warehouse floor.

Sort of reminds me of a blog post I ran into a while back:

It looks like BB is going to open 6 of these music centers in South Florida and the 1st opened last week in Pembroke Pines. I'll have to check it out when I can. The local newspaper published an article about the opening and said this location will have 5 to 7 "trained musical instrument specialists" and seperate drum and amp testing rooms.

The only thing that bothers me about this is if they are going to have adequate staff to give the instruments the attention they deserve. Knowledgeable staff, etc is key. I hate when I go to buy a product and I get a dumbell. I would hate to have the guitars end up taking up space at the end of an isle. Or worse, a floor model that has one string on it, beat to -hit.
When I was in the states I went to a BJ's and they were selling Starcasters.
They were all stacked up next to a hot tub. If the instruments are going to be sold, give them the kudos they deserve.

Here is the link to the article if you want more details. Not sure how long the Sentinel will keep it on their site.

I have already seen Starcasters there. I think that Entry level guitars like Act One and Starcasters should be there. I would never go to Best Buy to look for my guitar, but I would for a 4-5 yr old. If they show an interest or have mad skills, their next guitar would come from a speciality shop like GC or TME.

I think it is a great setup personally. It will be ran a lot like a GC, but with no commission sales people. The employees I have dealt with at the Mall of America Best Buy store (in their instrument dept) have been fantastic. They were knowledgeable, courteous, and very obliging (they make hourly wages, so why not?).

 WTF? What is the point of buying this a BestBuy? Kids are going to beg their parents to buy then a Squire or something, and they are going to get it and then forget about it. Kids now a days just want to look cool with their tight jeens and those "hommy" base-ball caps. Kids don't know where to start in this world anymore... :? :(

If a kid was a kick-ass guitarist, I would get him a good guitar for him to have for life........ (Fender, of course  )
