At 9am, it's partly cloudy and 90°/32°. There's a welcome chance of rain today so the humidity is up to 45%.

I agree, Paul. It's mostly the humidity that gets you. 100° with 3% humidity, which we get regularly, really isn't that bad.

Well, I’m going to shy away from debate about global warming, not that it isn’t an issue, but climate change has a storied history that if I showed you the huge puddles we call the Great Lakes, dried river beds, and empty lakes left over from earlier climate change, you’d see that it’s been here, done that long ago before we contributed to it. The aquatic dinosaur bones and fossils (and no I’m not talkin’ about me) around here are the proof.

One thing for sure is that change is in the wind. My mother lives on the west coast and their weather is turning to be like the prairies. 85° tomorrow like us. Hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. It’s difficult, especially for seniors, in many places that have no air conditioning from no need about 30 or 40 years ago and, yes, that’s a substantial time to add it, but bigger complexes like apartments can still be found without. Were it not for the rain forest, ocean or mountain breeze, they would swelter even more.

The ocean is warming, and sea life is a concern with things like California seals migrating possibly bringing their predators with them.

Here in the ‘Peg it’s 80°F/27°C with humidity at 49°. A beautiful sunny day, :D
I’m definitely going to take that in. Now where’s my wasp swatter? Put yer sunscreen on and forget them Speedos.

Lots of changes, indeed. This morning, I read that New South Wales is now classified as 100% in drought and they've had the second driest Autumn on record. The farmers and their animals are really suffering. It was sad to read but the Aussies are a tough bunch and I wish them well.

That’s unfortunate to hear about the Aussie’s. They certainly don’t need that.
Scientists here speak of a future dust bowl that stretches from the middle of Canada straight down the centre of USA making the dirty 30s look like a precursor.

Incidentally, global warming was once extremely low compared to today’s standards, and the cause for the 1930s dust bowl was more related to what was practiced at the source plus rather than the fact that between 1870 and 1914 the second industrial revolution occurred with massive amounts of pollution. Unlike the ever rising temperatures of today, after the second industrial revolution, temperatures actually dropped, levelled out, and then rose.

Global Temperature chart:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_ ... nomaly.svg

Obviously, industry practices have changed, maybe not for the best, but not always for the worst either.

I used to take ocean temperatures, and they have always fluctuated. Global warming had an affect; however, so too does undersea activity and looking at the volcanic activity of late that isn't surprising, and we are to expect more with the earth making natural changes. Perhaps, Mother Nature holds a secret. You can still take a cold dip in the Atlantic. :P
I love trees, need clean air, and cherish pure clean water. I hate dams that prevent those rights in the initial stages; but, that’s a double edge sword. They’ll have to get rid of those hordes of polluting Asian scooters before electric cars save the day, and they better start thinking of a replacement for plastic if these so called environmental products can make that claim. IMHO.

Gosh, I’m cold, huh? :P
Just trying to keep it real. YMMV

Great topic, Rollie.

The Global Temperature Charts certainly tell the story. A 1°C increase since the mid-'60s and the moving average line is getting more vertical as time passes. Our friends in Asia are huge contributors to air pollution and we have to take some of the blame for that. But we can count on our governments to protect us and stand up for us, right? After all, they do work for us, not the other way around.

We had some heavy storms pass through over night so it's cooled down to
about 82* F now but still very muggy with a 73* F dew point.

Yes, coastal SoCal weather is unusual this summer - it’s been much hotter than normal for over a month, and indeed those of us without A/C are having a tough time - but blaming it on climate change is premature. E.g., the winter of 2016-2017 was cool and very wet, and the summer of 2017 was very mild. There’s lots of variability in the weather year-to-year...

Still hovering around 90* F but the humidity is tropical with 72* F dew points.

Interesting. cthulhu. I get where you are coming from. Determining how to pinpoint global warming and climate change is not as simple as black and white.

Some may say that there isn't typical weather in this neck of the woods; however, some changes, such as additional tornadoes, are pretty close to home here with common extremes of weather, all the way from hot summers edging close to 100° on those rare occasions to -40° to -50° degrees with winds in the winter, and yet our Polar bears are sadly starving from depleting ice floes.

Consider this . . . hungry wildlife is entering city limits not just because of warming, but the balance of food supply shared by animals and humans has also been to some extent replaced with science working for industry, and the need for a sustainable natural food supply is being compromised. Fabricated increase in cost to the customer is trending. Along with taste likes, there is lab produced fish, beef, and pork standing by while cattle are starving, mass market pig farms are burning, and increased pollution destroys major salmon runs. All for the love of profit and loss. But, that’s another story that takes a back seat. Weather is part of the evolution. After mismanagement (whether it’s neglect or development including urban crawl) weather is a late comer.

Explaining 60° weather and then 90°+ weather for the rest of the week is not easy. Forest fires from here, neighbouring provinces, and from a distance raise our temperature, to which Californians can relate.

Global warming? How about typical forest nature, geography, man made arson and accidents, amongst other things added to climate change which is different than the global man made scenario.

Let’s take all that into consideration. Canada has a large land mass and it is divided into large areas. Some states can fit into a few of our lakes. The island I lived on is as big as some countries.

Okay. So now we claim a huge shift in weather, and it’s effect spread over an area. A large area is likely to see more of a shift or maybe not. Lots to consider. Some places have a higher concentrated population and are just as likely to be a contributor as a receiver of this dilemma. Ironically, these areas quite often have moderate weather or subtle seasonal change to which they have become accustomed to while others (often in less populated locations) see little or sporadic change or changes for the better. The ones with extreme change have the loudest voice of course.

Strangely, we could claim a global warming and an ice age at the same time. Or maybe, we just don’t have the intelligence to chuck the politics and grab the savvy to study the science as we know it to be. Science has a tarnished history as opposites attract. Remember the Ozone argument, or the failure of economists with the stock market, or . . . ? Maybe the failure of governments, the same ones that are shouting now, should have been more aggressive with the acid rain producers when that was the talk of the day. We might have helped to ease the pain today both environmentally and economically. These are the ones we put our trust in?

I definitely am in agreement that there is global warming, but it’s the blanketed blaming, management, and priority that I find questionable. I also would prefer Climate Change and Global Warming not to be used in the same breath. YMMV.

My neighbour (a 2 hour flight from here)

19°C/66°F with humidity 74%

Tomorrow it is an expected 88° which may not happen.

I woke up this morning to a yellow smoke filled haze that filtered Old Sol to a red colour. The culprit? BC’s approximately 450 forest fires 3 provinces and a little over 1000 miles away. The poor air quality kept us in. It will be interesting to see how long this will hang on.

FSB

This forest fire smoke travelled along the same jet streams that helped to drop Mount St. Helen’s volcanic ash on us from 1400 miles away in 1980. That abrasive mess lasted a few days too.

It finally hit 90 degrees here, yesterday. It wasn't as humid, at least. It's supposed to cool of some next week, going into the 70's. That's to be expected, since we're already half way through August, which makes me realize that this year is almost 3/4 the way over.

Holey Smackeroonie, Mike. Did ya move up north to the ‘Peg? We’re having a heatwave at 41°.

It's mostly cloudy and 82°/28° at 11am. It's a beautiful day.
