I went to a local music shop two days ago and looked at amps. They had some Marshall's, Laney's, and random others. I know that most people use Marshall's, but you get more with Laney's. I like the British tone, and I found one that I liked. It was built similar to the Fender twin, had a foot switch, was big (he didn't give me a watt count, but it was much bigger than the 65 next to it). It could, to top it off, switch from tube to s.s.. Also, at another shop they had Fenders, and I like them a lot as well. Sadly, the biggest I saw was a 65, but that's the very minimum wattage I want, because me and a friend want to start a band. It sounded good... but I don't know what the price would be if the guy ordered a bigger one. The Laney (which I hadn't heard, though I'm sure it's sounds good) is priced at... $699.00.
So does anyone have any advice/ expieriance with either?

Well for one I'd make sure I actually played the Laney before I decided it's the better deal. As for the wattage, 65W of tube power is more then enough for any gig. Believe me, you don't need a 100W amp to be in a band. You'll never move the Vol. past 3. You'd miss out on that great overdriven power stage growl.

Well, of course I would listen to it first, but the reason I sayed I think it sounds good is the guy at the counter sayed he liked it so much he played it a lot when nobody was in. Then he thought, hey, it's murchandise, so I should bring my amp in(there was a marshal next to it he sayed was his).
